These 30 prompts give Cursor Agent concrete React tasks, useful context, and boundaries for its changes. They are designed to reduce repeated prompting—not to guarantee a particular time saving. Cursor describes Agent as able to work independently on coding tasks, edit files, search a codebase, and run terminal commands; review its output before accepting changes.
How to get better results from React prompts in Cursor
A useful prompt says what should change and what is true now. Include the relevant component, observed behavior or error, constraints such as existing project conventions, and what you want back. If you know the files, attach them with @ mentions; if you do not, ask Cursor to find the implementation first. Cursor’s guidance covers both context attachment and the value of intent and state: Prompting agents and Working with Context.
Use Ask for read-only exploration and Agent when you want a bounded code change. A sensible sequence is to investigate, decide on the scope, then request an edit and inspect the diff and verification. See Cursor Modes. Put stable, reusable project conventions in project rules rather than repeating them in every prompt; keep rules focused and scoped where possible. Cursor documents these practices in Cursor Rules.
Replace bracketed details before sending a prompt. If a task could touch many files, ask for an inspection and plan before authorizing implementation.

Investigation prompts
1. Find where a feature is implemented

Debugging and maintenance prompts
13. Diagnose a React error from its stack trace
Explain this error and stack trace in the context of this codebase: [paste error]. Do not edit files. Identify the first relevant application frame, inspect its inputs and render path, and give the likeliest cause plus a minimal fix approach.
14. Fix a stale state or closure bug
Investigate whether [callback, effect, or handler] uses stale state in [component]. Do not change code yet. Explain the render and update sequence that causes the observed behavior, then propose the smallest safe fix without changing unrelated logic.
15. Investigate an effect running too often
In [component], determine why this effect runs [more often than expected / repeatedly]. Inspect its dependencies and the values created during render. Do not edit files; explain the cause and suggest the narrowest correction that preserves intended behavior.
16. Resolve a TypeScript error
Resolve this TypeScript error in [file]: [paste error]. Inspect the surrounding types and callers. Prefer a fix that accurately models the data rather than suppressing the error; keep the public API unchanged unless the code shows that is necessary.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →17. Find and fix a React key warning
Find the source of this React key warning in [page or feature]. Explain why the current key is unsuitable, then update only the affected list to use a stable key available in the data. Do not use the array index unless the list is demonstrably static.
18. Fix a failing test without weakening it
Investigate this failing test: [test name and output]. Compare the assertion with the component’s intended behavior and existing tests. Make the smallest correction to the implementation or test, and do not remove the assertion or reduce coverage just to make it pass.

Refactoring prompts
19. Split a component that has too many responsibilities
Review [component] and identify distinct responsibilities that make it hard to maintain. First propose a small extraction plan without editing. After I approve, extract only the agreed pieces, preserve the current behavior and API, and run relevant tests.
20. Remove duplicated UI safely
Find duplicated [UI or logic] in [scope]. Compare the cases before proposing a shared component or helper. Do not edit files until you explain what should be shared, what should remain distinct, and which callers would change.
21. Replace prop drilling with a suitable pattern
Trace how [value or action] passes through [components]. Assess whether context or another existing project pattern is appropriate; do not introduce a new state library. First explain trade-offs and scope. If the change is justified, implement it without changing unrelated state.
22. Simplify a complex conditional render
Refactor the conditional rendering in [component] for readability. Preserve every existing state and its behavior. Before editing, list the cases the current code handles; after editing, explain how each case maps to the new structure.
23. Migrate a component to the project’s current pattern
Compare [component] with the project’s current pattern for [hooks, styling, or data fetching], using [example file] as a reference. Migrate only the outdated part, keep behavior and external props stable, and note any differences that should not be copied.
Quality, accessibility, and verification prompts
24. Add focused tests for user behavior
Add tests for [component or feature] that cover these user-visible cases: [cases]. Follow the existing test setup and query elements by accessible role or label where practical. Do not test implementation details unless the project’s established pattern requires them.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
25. Review keyboard and screen-reader access
Audit [component or page] for keyboard operation and accessible names, roles, and state. Do not edit files yet. List concrete issues with file locations and propose the smallest changes; distinguish confirmed problems from items that need manual assistive-technology testing.
26. Check a change for edge cases
Review the implementation of [feature] against these edge cases: [empty input, missing data, slow response, repeated action, or others]. Do not edit files. Identify only cases the current code fails to handle and explain how each can be reproduced.
27. Review a diff for regressions
Review my current diff for React-specific bugs, unintended behavior changes, and missing tests. Do not edit files. Prioritize findings by severity, include file and line references, and omit stylistic preferences unless they violate a project rule.
28. Run the right verification commands
Inspect the project scripts and the files changed for [feature]. Identify the appropriate lint, type-check, and test commands; then run the relevant ones. Do not fix unrelated failures. Report the exact commands and results, and distinguish existing failures from regressions if the evidence allows.
29. Explain a performance concern before optimizing
Investigate whether [component or interaction] has a performance issue, using the code and any profiling data I provide: [details]. Do not make speculative memoization changes. Explain the likely bottleneck, what evidence supports it, and the smallest change worth testing.
30. Prepare a change for handoff
Review the changes for [feature] and prepare a concise handoff: files changed, behavior added or altered, verification run and results, and known limitations. Do not claim a command passed unless you ran it, and do not make additional edits.
Make recurring instructions reusable
If you find yourself repeating a project convention—such as how React components are tested or which styling system to use—consider putting that stable instruction in a focused project rule. Keep task-specific goals, current errors, and one-off constraints in the prompt. Cursor’s rules guidance recommends concrete, reusable instructions scoped to the codebase or relevant files, rather than a large set of generic directions applied everywhere.
