Google promoted Chrome 49.0.2623.75 to the stable channel on March 2, 2016, for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Google said the update included 26 security fixes, but its announcement named only selected examples—not a complete public list.

When was Chrome 49 released, and which platforms received it?

Google announced the stable release on March 2, 2016. The initial stable build was Chrome 49.0.2623.75 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Google’s Chrome release announcement is the source for the date, build, platforms, and initial fix count.

What security fixes did Chrome 49 include?

Google’s announcement stated, “This update includes 26 security fixes.” It highlighted several externally reported vulnerabilities:

  • CVE-2016-1630: a same-origin bypass in Blink.
  • CVE-2016-1631: a same-origin bypass in Pepper Plugin.
  • CVE-2016-1632: a bad cast in Extensions.
  • CVE-2016-1641: a use-after-free in Favicon.

These are examples, not the full set of 26 fixes. Google said it could keep bug details and links restricted until most users had updated. It also noted that details could remain restricted when an issue affected a third-party library that other projects used and had not yet fixed.

Does the 26-fix count cover every Chrome 49 update?

No. The figure applies to the initial stable update, version 49.0.2623.75, announced on March 2. Chrome 49 received later stable builds during March, including 49.0.2623.87 and 49.0.2623.108, with additional security-fix announcements. The March 2016 Chrome Releases archive lists those later updates, so the initial 26 should not be treated as a total for the entire Chrome 49 version line.

What did Google’s $14,500 figure refer to?

The same announcement recorded $14,500 in additional rewards for security bugs present on non-stable channels. That amount concerned security rewards for non-stable-channel bugs; it was separate from the 26 fixes reported in the stable update.
