Mimecast announced on January 4, 2024, that it had acquired Elevate Security, a provider of human-risk-management technology. The companies’ stated plan was to combine Elevate’s behavior-based risk insights with Mimecast’s security-awareness training so organizations could target education and interventions more closely. Mimecast did not disclose the acquisition’s financial terms.
What Mimecast acquired
Mimecast described Elevate Security as an enterprise human-risk-management provider. According to Mimecast’s announcement, Elevate’s platform could combine behavioral and contextual data from multiple sources, then use a risk-scoring algorithm to identify people it considered higher risk. Mimecast said those insights could be paired with tools such as its Awareness Training to support targeted interventions.
Those capabilities and anticipated benefits are Mimecast’s descriptions of Elevate’s technology; the announcement does not independently validate the scoring algorithm’s accuracy or demonstrate a measured reduction in security incidents. Mimecast’s January 4, 2024 acquisition announcement also said integration had begun and that it would maintain and support Elevate’s existing customer base.
Why the acquisition fit Mimecast’s strategy
Mimecast’s stated rationale was to connect an assessment of human risk with security education and action. In practical terms, behavior and context data could help an organization decide whom to train or when to intervene, rather than treating every employee identically. The acquisition announcement presents this as the intended value of combining the technologies, not as proof that the combined approach produces a particular security outcome.
#1 Best Overall
Mimecast Chief Technology and Product Officer David Raissipour said in the announcement: “People are historically the largest vulnerability in an organization but can also be the strongest line of defense if given the right tools and education.” That is the company’s strategic framing, not an independent finding.
What happened after the announcement
In July 2024, Mimecast connected the integration to Mimecast Engage, describing it as a human-risk awareness-and-training offering resulting from Elevate technology acquired in December 2023. The July announcement therefore documents a named integration outcome, while the January release records the acquisition announcement and the start of integration.

These dated statements do not establish the exact availability, packaging, or support status of every Elevate-derived capability in October 2026. For the July reference, see Mimecast’s announcement about its acquisition of Code42, which describes Mimecast Engage in the context of the Elevate integration.
What is known about the deal’s value
Mimecast did not disclose the acquisition’s financial terms in its announcement. SecurityWeek reported that Elevate had raised $18.3 million in venture-capital financing, but that is a funding figure—not the price Mimecast paid. SecurityWeek’s acquisition report is the source for the funding figure; it should not be used to infer transaction value.
What Elevate’s leadership said
Elevate CEO and co-founder Robert Fly said in Mimecast’s announcement: “Elevate Security prides itself on being one of the first human risk platforms to help organizations identify high-risk people and automate responses and safeguards, and we have long admired Mimecast’s commitment to changing user behavior to enhance protection.” This is Fly’s characterization of Elevate and its fit with Mimecast, attributed to the company release.
