A short settings review can reduce specific forms of access while preserving features you rely on. The exact menus and options depend on your device, operating-system version and account.
What “phone tracking” means—and what a toggle can change
“Tracking” can refer to several different things: an app accessing your location or microphone, companies linking activity across apps and websites for advertising, an advertising identifier, or activity saved to an online account. Those are separate controls. A permission change can restrict an app’s access to a particular category; it does not necessarily stop the app from collecting information you provide directly or activity associated with its service.
Start with the data you want to limit. Narrowing background location access is different from denying camera access, and both are different from changing an account’s activity history. Turning off device-wide location can also affect useful features such as maps and device-finding, so an app-by-app review is often more practical.
Review and limit app permissions
On iPhone
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Review categories such as Location Services, Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Photos and Bluetooth.
- Choose an app and revoke access it no longer needs. Apple describes these controls in its iPhone privacy guide.
Revoking a permission limits future access to that category; an app may lose a feature that depends on it. For example, a calling or camera app may need microphone or camera access for its core function.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
On Android
- Open Settings > Privacy, or Security & Privacy > Privacy Dashboard, depending on your phone.
- Open the relevant permission category to review apps and change access.
- Use the dashboard to see recent permission activity where supported.
Android menu names and placement vary by manufacturer and version. Google’s Privacy Dashboard guidance says the history window is seven days on Android 13 and 24 hours on Android 12. A dashboard is a limited retrospective view, not a complete record of everything an app or company has collected.
Reduce location access without disabling every location feature
iPhone: choose access per app and review system services
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then review each app. When the app does not need location continuously, choose a narrower option such as While Using the App, if available. For apps that only need a general area, turn off Precise Location where that control is offered. Review system services separately. Apple explains app and system location controls in its Location Services overview.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Turning off Location Services for the whole device can affect functions such as maps and device-finding. Consider changing the individual app’s access first, especially if you still want location-dependent services to work.
Android: set each app’s location permission
Open the app’s permission details for Location in Settings. Depending on the Android release and manufacturer, options may include Allow all the time, Allow only while using the app, Ask every time or Don’t allow. Where available, you can also choose approximate rather than precise location. Google’s Android location-sharing guidance describes these choices and location-sharing labels.

Some Android permission prompts include a disclosure about location sharing. Google says those labels rely on information submitted by app developers; they are not an independent verification of an app’s practices.
Location permission is not the same as account location history
An app’s device permission and location-related information saved by an online service are different layers. Google account activity can include location-related information even when you are reviewing device permissions. Google notes that turning off or deleting Timeline data does not necessarily remove location-related information associated with other Google services or Web & App Activity. Review Google Account > Data & privacy > History settings; names may change as Google updates its Search services settings. See Google’s account information and activity controls.

Turn off cross-company tracking requests on iPhone
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track stops new prompts and causes tracking requests to be treated as denied. Apple uses “tracking” here for linking activity across other companies’ apps and websites, such as for advertising or sharing with data brokers; it does not mean every kind of data collection by an app is disabled. Review Apple’s app tracking controls for details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Review the advertising identifier on Android
Look for Settings > Google > All services > Privacy & security > Ads, or the equivalent path on your phone. Google documents options to reset or delete the advertising identifier. Resetting replaces it with a new identifier; deleting removes it without assigning a replacement. The precise labels and path may vary.

Deleting the advertising ID does not stop ads. Apps may rely on other settings or identifiers, and ads can be based on other factors. Google’s Advertising ID guidance and Play services ads safety information describe these limits.
Use privacy reports to spot activity, not to certify an app
iPhone: App Privacy Report
To enable it, open Settings > Privacy & Security > App Privacy Report. The report begins collecting only after you turn it on; it cannot recreate earlier activity. Apple describes a seven-day view of app access to privacy-sensitive data and device sensors, along with domains contacted. Its App Privacy Report documentation explains what appears in the report.
Android: Privacy Dashboard
Use the dashboard’s recent permission history to identify which apps accessed a permission and when, within the history period supported by your Android version. The limited time window means it is not a full historical audit. Neither platform’s report establishes every recipient of data or every use a company makes of it.
Quick Recap
A practical privacy review, in order
- Check sensitive permissions and remove access that an app does not need.
- For location, prefer app-specific and while-in-use controls where they meet your needs; disable precise access when an approximate area is enough.
- On iPhone, decide whether to deny cross-company tracking requests through the Tracking setting.
- On Android, review ad privacy choices and decide whether to reset or delete the advertising identifier, understanding that ads may continue.
- Review account-level history separately from device permissions, especially if you use Google services.
- Enable the available privacy report or dashboard if you want to inspect recent activity, keeping its reporting window and limits in mind.
