AMD’s approximately 16% IPC figure is scoped to Ryzen 9000 desktop processors compared with the previous Zen 4 generation. It does not establish a 16% mobile Zen 5-over-Zen 4 result. AMD’s mobile Zen 5 family is Ryzen AI 300, but its published mobile materials describe products and features rather than a controlled mobile IPC comparison.
What AMD’s 16% IPC claim actually covers
IPC, or instructions per clock, describes how much work a processor core can complete per clock cycle under a given workload. It is not the same as clock speed, total application performance, or a processor’s number of cores.
AMD’s Zen architecture page describes Zen 5 improvements to branch-prediction accuracy and latency, throughput from wider pipelines and vectors, and the size of the window available for parallel work. In its Ryzen 9000 desktop discussion, AMD says single-threaded IPC increased by about 16% generation over generation. AMD’s Zen architecture overview
AMD’s June 2, 2024 launch announcement discusses both Ryzen 9000 desktop processors and Ryzen AI 300 mobile processors, but attaches the average 16% IPC comparison to Ryzen 9000 desktop processors versus the preceding Zen 4 generation. The mobile section instead cites up to 12 high-performance CPU cores and 24 threads, and 50% more on-chip L3 cache than prior-generation Zen 4 processors in its thin-and-light comparison. Cache capacity is a separate measure from IPC. AMD’s June 2024 announcement

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What Zen 5 means in Ryzen AI 300 laptops
Ryzen AI 300 is AMD’s Zen 5 mobile processor family. Its models differ in core count, clock ceiling, graphics, and advertised NPU capability. AMD’s June 2025 guide lists these representative specifications:
| Processor | CPU cores / threads | Maximum boost | Cache | TDP range | Integrated graphics | Maximum NPU capability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 | 12 / 24 | Up to 5.1 GHz | 36 MB | 15–54 W | Radeon 890M | Up to 55 TOPS |
| Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 | 12 / 24 | Up to 5.1 GHz | 36 MB | 15–54 W | Radeon 890M | Up to 50 TOPS |
| Ryzen AI 9 365 | 10 / 20 | Up to 5.0 GHz | 34 MB | 15–54 W | Radeon 880M | Up to 50 TOPS |
| Ryzen AI 7 350 | 8 / 16 | Up to 5.0 GHz | 24 MB | 15–54 W | Radeon 860M | Up to 50 TOPS |
| Ryzen AI 5 340 | 6 / 12 | Up to 4.8 GHz | 22 MB | 15–54 W | Radeon 840M | Up to 50 TOPS |
These are AMD-published specifications, not independent test results. “Up to” denotes a ceiling, not a guaranteed operating speed or performance level. AMD says boost sustainability varies with workload and thermal conditions, and the same processor can be configured differently by laptop makers. The figures are from AMD’s June 2025 Ryzen AI 300 sales guide.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
How to compare mobile Zen 5 with mobile Zen 4
A processor-family label or desktop IPC percentage cannot predict how two complete laptops will compare. For a meaningful mobile comparison, use systems tested under the same conditions and check:
- Exact processor and power configuration: Record each laptop’s CPU model and configured power limits, not just its processor family.
- Sustained CPU performance: Compare the same workload over enough time to reveal thermal and power behavior, rather than relying only on a short peak result.
- Graphics: Match integrated or discrete GPU configurations and use the same gaming or rendering tests.
- Battery testing: Compare brightness, wireless conditions, power mode, and workload; otherwise runtime results may not be comparable.
- Other system differences: Account for memory, storage, display, and price, all of which can affect the practical choice.
AMD’s product materials include vendor benchmark claims and testing footnotes, not a neutral, controlled mobile Zen 5-versus-Zen 4 IPC study. Treat a vendor result as evidence for its stated setup rather than a universal laptop outcome. AMD also cautions that NPU TOPS represent peak capability in an optimal scenario and may not reflect typical performance; actual results vary with system configuration, AI model, and software. TOPS is not a measure of general CPU speed, and it does not guarantee that every advertised AI feature is available on every laptop. AMD Ryzen AI 300 product information

What the 16% figure can—and cannot—tell laptop buyers
The figure is useful as AMD’s stated desktop Zen 5-versus-Zen 4 generational IPC comparison. It should not be applied as a proven mobile uplift or used to predict that a Ryzen AI 300 laptop will be 16% faster in applications. Mobile results depend on the complete laptop design, power settings, cooling, workload, and competing system components.
AMD named Acer, ASUS, HP, Lenovo, and MSI among the companies announcing Ryzen AI 300 PCs in 2024. That identifies announced OEM partners, not current stock of a particular laptop configuration. When considering a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 laptop or another Ryzen AI 300 laptop, compare reviews of the exact systems and configurations available to you rather than treating the processor specification as a standalone performance guarantee.
