Vector SDx Cloud is a modular platform for connecting embedded systems with cloud services and managing connected functions across their lifecycle. Vector announced it on September 8, 2025, positioning it for software-defined vehicles and other connected products. Its stated use cases include fleet management, data collection, software updates and remote operations; deployment options include SaaS, a managed customer-cloud deployment and self-hosting.
What is SDx Cloud?
Vector describes SDx Cloud as a platform for building and running connected services across embedded systems and cloud infrastructure. The goal is to link device- or ECU-level functions with cloud-side services, from development and deployment through operations and after-sales support. Its current SDx Cloud product page calls it modular and presents it as a foundation teams can use to assemble device-to-cloud workflows.
Vector announced the platform on September 8, 2025, ahead of its planned presentation at IAA Mobility in Munich from September 9 to 12, 2025. The launch release says a dedicated Vector product unit had been developing it since 2023, using established hyperscaler technologies. Vector distinguishes SDV Cloud as the automotive-specific implementation of the broader SDx Cloud platform; the names describe related offerings, not interchangeable products, according to the launch announcement.
What does Vector SDx Cloud do?
Vector’s current product page groups the platform’s capabilities around shared management services, APIs and operational workflows. These are product descriptions from Vector, not independently measured results.

Update software and support vehicle diagnostics
The 2025 launch announcement specifically listed OTA software updates, SOVD-based remote diagnostics, vehicle-cloud communication for data exchange and control, intrusion detection, and device and service management. The current product page groups capabilities somewhat differently, so these launch-specific examples should be read as descriptions in that dated release rather than a guarantee that every function is available in every configuration.
Start development before final hardware is ready
Vector says developers can begin with SDKs, quick-start guides and examples, including prototyping before final hardware is available. It positions SDx Cloud for development, deployment, operations and after-sales workflows. The public materials do not quantify time saved, reliability gains or other outcomes from using these resources.

How does SDx Cloud connect a vehicle to the cloud?
At a high level, the platform provides cloud-side services and APIs that connect embedded or vehicle functions to remote management and data workflows. Vector’s launch material described communication between vehicle and cloud for exchanging data and issuing control, while the current product page lists OTA communication, remote commands, data collection and fleet-level APIs. Vector also describes tight integration between SDx Cloud and MICROSAR Connect, its embedded software for connected vehicle functions.
That description establishes the intended architecture and workflows, not a complete implementation blueprint. The public pages do not specify a universal vehicle gateway design, network protocol configuration, deployment topology, or required ECU hardware. Those choices need to be resolved for a particular product and integration.

Can SDx Cloud run in your own cloud?
Vector currently lists three operating models. The right fit depends on who should operate the infrastructure, how closely the platform must fit existing enterprise systems, and how much lifecycle responsibility the product team intends to retain.
| Operating model | What Vector lists | Evaluation question |
|---|---|---|
| SaaS | SDx Cloud provided as a software-as-a-service option. Vector product page. | Does a vendor-operated service meet your organization’s infrastructure, governance and operations requirements? |
| Managed deployment on a customer cloud | A managed deployment on the customer’s cloud. Vector product page. | Which responsibilities remain with your team, and which does Vector manage in your environment? |
| Self-hosting | A self-hosted operating choice. The page does not state specific infrastructure requirements. Vector product page. | Can your team operate the platform and its integrations throughout the product lifecycle? |
Vector also describes BYOx integration with customer-owned CRM, PKI, front end and infrastructure. Its APIs span device-level control and fleet-level orchestration. These are useful evaluation axes, but Vector’s public product page does not provide a decision matrix, pricing or comparative cost figures.

How should an engineering team evaluate it?
Before selecting a deployment model, map the platform to the systems and responsibilities your product actually needs. Useful questions include:
- Hosting and operations: Who provisions, monitors and maintains the cloud environment, platform services and connected-device operations?
- Enterprise integration: Which CRM, PKI, front-end, ERP, data lake or existing infrastructure components must remain in place, and what integration work is required?
- API scope: Do product teams need direct device control, fleet-wide orchestration, or both? Identify the API and authorization boundaries for each workflow.
- Lifecycle ownership: Who designs, tests and supports update, telemetry, diagnostic and security workflows from development through field operation?
- Evidence for the use case: Ask Vector to demonstrate the specific workflow, deployment topology and operating responsibilities relevant to your product rather than treating a capability list as proof of production outcomes.
Vector’s services page says its teams can assist with evaluation, end-to-end architecture, update, telemetry, diagnostic and security workflows, cloud and embedded application development, ERP and data-lake integration, and rollout from MVP to fleet scale. It says these services can apply to SDx Cloud or a customer’s own cloud. That makes the services relevant during evaluation, but does not establish that they are required to use the platform.
Does SDx Cloud apply beyond automotive?
Vector’s launch release frames SDx Cloud for physical systems beyond vehicles as well as software-defined vehicles. Vector also markets it for connected medical devices. Its MedTech materials describe OTA updates, device and fleet monitoring, query-based data collection and lifecycle management.
Those pages represent Vector’s product positioning. Compliance or standards language in vendor materials should not be read as proof of independent certification or regulatory approval; teams in regulated sectors should verify the applicable evidence for their intended device, market and deployment.

What is established—and what is not?
Vector’s public materials establish the product’s stated purpose, capability groupings, operating choices and target contexts. They do not establish independent customer outcomes, comparative performance benchmarks, public pricing or contract terms. The available descriptions therefore support an initial architecture and fit assessment, but not a conclusion about cost, measured reliability or security certification for a particular implementation.
