EA and Stability AI announced a partnership on January 16, 2026, to develop AI models, tools, and workflows for EA’s artists, designers, and developers. EA says an initial effort will focus on physically based rendering (PBR) materials and 2D textures; the partners are also exploring AI-assisted previews of 3D environments. The announcement describes internal production support, not a retail product or a tool with a public release date.
What EA and Stability AI plan to build
EA’s announcement describes two related efforts, but gives them different levels of certainty: PBR material creation is among the first initiatives, while 3D environment previsualization is still being explored.
PBR materials and 2D textures
The initial focus includes accelerating the creation of physically based rendering materials. EA gives the example of generating 2D textures intended to preserve exact color and light accuracy across different environments. PBR workflows aim to make materials respond plausibly to lighting; EA’s stated example is about helping artists create textures that retain their intended appearance under varied conditions.
Previsualizing 3D environments
The companies are also exploring AI systems that could turn intentional prompts into previews of full 3D environments. EA frames this as a way for artists to guide the creative direction of generated game content. The announcement does not describe a finished environment-generation feature or say when one might be ready.

How the tools are meant to fit into game development
EA presents the collaboration as a way for creative teams to iterate on and visualize ideas faster, with people remaining central to storytelling. Stability AI says its 3D research team will work directly with EA artists and developers. These are the companies’ stated goals and approach, not independently verified results.
EA’s Steve Kestell, Head of Technical Art for EA SPORTS, called the concept “smarter paintbrushes”: tools intended to help creatives express what they want. In practical terms, the announcement points to AI as assistance for parts of the art-production process—not as a statement that the tools will replace artists or make creative decisions without them.
