Yes—MSI says Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) uses over 5% less RAM than the traditional Windows desktop on supported MSI Claw handhelds. The figure is MSI’s published comparison, not an independently verified measurement, and the company does not provide absolute memory readings or test conditions. Less RAM use may leave more memory available to games, but it does not guarantee a higher frame rate.
What MSI’s memory claim means
MSI attributes the reduction to FSE loading fewer background processes at startup. The feature changes the handheld’s startup and interface experience; it does not add physical RAM or increase the device’s installed memory. MSI’s November 24, 2025 announcement describes FSE as a console-like interface that brings games from Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Battle.net, Epic Games and other launchers into an aggregated library. MSI’s announcement does not state the test protocol, absolute RAM figures, or independent verification for its “over 5% less” comparison.
Does lower RAM use improve game performance?
It can leave more memory available to a game, but RAM use alone does not predict a particular frame-rate gain. Performance also depends on the Claw model and memory configuration, background activity, game, resolution, graphics settings, and power mode.
MSI’s reported Claw results
In its setup guide, MSI says it benchmarked three Claw configurations and saw smoother frame rates and improved consistency in Cyberpunk 2077 with FSE. The accessible guide does not publish numerical results or methodology, so treat this as MSI’s reported outcome rather than a result guaranteed on every Claw. Other Xbox mode testing
Independent reports offer context, not a direct MSI Claw comparison. Windows Central’s Xbox Ally X review said FSE freed RAM but did not have a huge material impact on game performance in that review. The Xbox Ally X review concerns a different handheld.
TechRadar’s June 17, 2026 report on Linus Tech Tips testing of two matching-spec PCs found lower memory use in Xbox mode, while tests of Forza Horizon 5, Cyberpunk 2077, and Doom: The Dark Ages showed the same or negligible frame-rate differences under the reported conditions. The report characterizes this as one set of benchmarks and notes that outcomes may vary by system and test. Read TechRadar’s report. Those tests do not establish what every MSI Claw model will achieve.

Which MSI Claw models support FSE?
In its November 24, 2025 announcement, MSI listed these devices as supporting the latest Xbox Full Screen Experience: Claw A1M, Claw 7 AI+, Claw 8 AI+, Claw A8, and Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition. Support and setup can depend on device updates; check the current MSI page for your exact model rather than assuming the listed software versions remain current.
How to set Xbox FSE as the Claw home experience
MSI’s guide gives the following version-specific preparation steps. Update Windows, the BIOS, MSI Center M, the Xbox App, and Game Bar. The guide lists Intel BIOS versions ending in 10F, AMD BIOS versions ending in 105, and MSI Center M version 2.0.51031.0 or newer. - Open Settings > Gaming > Full Screen Experience. MSI says an MSI Center M prompt can open this Windows setting, or you can navigate there manually.
- Select Xbox as the home app and enable the option to start in Full Screen Experience.
- Restart the Claw to enter FSE at startup.
MSI also describes holding the Quick Settings button to switch apps. To return to Desktop mode, choose the Desktop tab; use the Xbox app to enter FSE again.

FSE is most relevant if you prefer a controller-friendly, console-like startup and want fewer background processes loading at startup. Its RAM reduction may be useful when memory availability is a constraint, but the published evidence does not establish a specific FPS benefit on your device. If comparing results yourself, keep the Claw model, Windows and BIOS versions, startup apps, game, resolution, graphics settings, and power mode consistent; distinguish memory use from average or minimum frame rate and frame-time consistency.
