Verizon updates the Fios Quantum Gateway’s firmware automatically; the model-specific instructions do not provide a customer-facing manual upload or “check for update” option. Confirm that your router is the Quantum Gateway, model Fios-G1100, before following advice for it. If you are troubleshooting a frozen or disconnected router, you can reboot it—but a reboot is not a manual firmware update and does not guarantee one.
Confirm that you have a Fios Quantum Gateway (G1100)
Verizon supports multiple Fios router models, and update instructions can differ. Check the router’s label for the model number. The Quantum Gateway’s model is Fios-G1100; Verizon lists it separately from its other router models. See Verizon’s router support page and the Fios Quantum Gateway user guide.
How firmware updates work on the G1100
Verizon’s G1100 user guide states: “Firmware updates are performed automatically by Verizon.” The current model-specific support material reviewed does not document a customer-facing way to download and upload firmware or check for an update. Don’t use instructions for a different Verizon router as if they apply to the Quantum Gateway.
The reviewed materials do not specify a current firmware version, release schedule, or user-facing update-status check. If you believe an update is overdue or have a continuing service problem, contact Verizon support for help with your account and device.

Reboot the gateway if it is frozen or disconnected
A reboot restarts the router; Verizon does not say that it forces or guarantees a firmware update. To reboot the Quantum Gateway:
- Press and hold the WPS button on the front of the router for 10 seconds.
- Wait for the Internet light to become steady white before checking your connection.

Do not factory-reset the router to update it
The rear red reset button restores factory defaults; it is not an update control. Verizon’s FAQ says to hold it for 15 seconds to reset the gateway and warns that the reset deletes customized Wi-Fi and network settings, including the ESSID and encryption key. Connected devices may not reconnect until you restore the settings. Use a factory reset only when you intend to erase those customizations—not as a firmware update step.

Verizon’s FAQ says you can reach advanced settings at myfiosgateway.com or 192.168.1.1. Sign in using the admin username and the unique default password printed on the router label. The current support page does not identify a firmware update control in these settings, so don’t assume that signing in lets you install an update.
