The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro’s main advantages on paper are its slightly larger, faster display, higher advertised zoom ceiling, aluminium unibody and IP65 rating. Both models list the same 3.5x optical periscope zoom, 5,080 mAh battery capacity, 50 W charging and software-support period. Whether the Pro is worth more depends on how much you value those upgrades—and the price of the same storage configuration at checkout.

What is the difference between Nothing Phone (4a) and 4a Pro?

Display: a small size increase and higher refresh ceiling for the Pro

The Pro’s screen is 0.05 inches larger diagonally, and its adaptive refresh-rate ceiling is 144 Hz rather than 120 Hz. Nothing also lists a higher peak-brightness figure for the Pro. Those headline specifications may matter if you want the highest refresh option or a brighter display on paper, but they do not establish how the phones compare in every lighting condition or app.

Camera: the same listed optical zoom, different maximum zoom claims

Both phones list a 50 MP OIS periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom. The advertised maximum is 70x on the Phone (4a) and 140x on the Pro. The larger number is not an optical zoom rating: digital zoom beyond the optical range should not be taken to mean optical-quality detail. Nothing also lists a 50 MP OIS main camera on the base model and a 50 MP OIS Sony main camera on the Pro, alongside 32 MP front cameras on both.

Nothing’s product pages make those zoom claims, but the specifications alone do not establish which phone takes better real-world photographs. No independent camera comparison is available here.

Performance: different Snapdragon tiers, without a benchmark verdict

The Phone (4a) uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, while the Pro uses the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. That is a chipset distinction, not a measured speed comparison: the listed specifications do not establish how much faster the Pro is in games or everyday tasks.

Battery: equal capacity and charging, with different vendor estimates

Both list a 5,080 mAh battery and 50 W fast charging. Nothing estimates the base model at 21 hours of YouTube, 26 hours of Instagram, 26 hours of music and 47 hours of calls; its Pro estimates are 20, 25, 28 and 51 hours, respectively. These are Nothing’s scenario-specific claims, not independent battery-test results, and they do not provide a single overall winner.

Durability and materials: the Pro has the higher listed rating

The Pro is rated IP65, compared with IP64 for the base phone, and has an aluminium unibody rather than a glass back with aluminium details. Nothing says both phones were tested under 25 cm of water for up to 20 minutes. An IP rating is not a reason to deliberately expose a phone to water; follow the manufacturer’s care guidance.

Software support: the stated period is the same

Nothing lists Android 16-based Nothing OS and three years of OS updates plus six years of security updates for both models. The Pro’s higher hardware specifications do not come with a longer support period in the stated figures.

Is Nothing Phone (4a) Pro worth the extra money?

Choose based on the features you will use, then compare like-for-like storage prices:

  • Pick the Phone (4a) if you want the shared 3.5x optical periscope camera, a display with up to 120 Hz adaptive refresh, and the same stated software-support period at a lower price when the matching configuration is cheaper.
  • Consider the Phone (4a) Pro if its 144 Hz refresh ceiling, slightly larger screen, higher advertised zoom ceiling, IP65 rating or aluminium unibody is worth paying more for you.
  • Do not pay a premium based only on the 140x figure if you expect it to mean twice the optical reach: both models list 3.5x optical zoom, and the maximum advertised figures do not establish image quality.

This is a feature-based recommendation from Nothing’s specifications, not a hands-on performance or camera verdict.
