To open Control Center on a locked iPhone, use the same gesture as when the phone is unlocked: swipe down from the top-right corner on a Face ID iPhone, or swipe up from the bottom edge on an iPhone with a Home button. If it does not appear on the Lock Screen, enable access while locked in Settings.
Open Control Center on your iPhone

These gestures work from the Lock Screen as well as from the Home Screen. On a Face ID model, begin at the right-hand corner; a swipe near the top center can open Notification Center instead. Apple’s iPhone User Guide documents the model-specific gestures.
Allow Control Center on the Lock Screen
If the gesture does nothing while your iPhone is locked, check whether Lock Screen access is disabled:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, depending on your iPhone.
- Enter your passcode if asked.
- Under Allow Access When Locked, turn on Control Center.
Leaving this access on is convenient, but it lets someone holding your locked phone use Control Center controls. Turning it off limits what can be accessed from the Lock Screen, while also removing your own quick access there. Choose the setting that fits your privacy needs; Apple describes the option in its Lock Screen access guidance.

Customize the controls you see
On supported software, you can edit Control Center from within Control Center itself:
- Open Control Center with the gesture for your iPhone model.
- Tap the Add button, then choose Add a Control to open the controls gallery.
- Tap a control to add it.
- Drag controls to rearrange them. Use a control’s remove button to delete it, or drag its resize handle to change its size.
Some layouts let you move between sections by swiping. The controls and layout available vary by device and software version; consult Apple’s instructions for customizing Control Center for the current interface.

Use extra actions and Control Center groups
Touch and hold a control to see whether it offers more actions. For example, holding the connectivity group can reveal AirDrop options, and camera controls can provide quick actions.
In iOS 18 and later, you can swipe within Control Center to reach groups such as Music and Home, along with controls for features such as AirDrop or Satellite. The groups and controls shown depend on the iPhone and installed software; not every device has every option. See Apple’s Control Center guide for examples.

Know what Wi-Fi and Bluetooth controls do
Tapping Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in Control Center temporarily disconnects from networks or devices; it does not fully switch off the radio. To turn either off, open the corresponding Settings page instead:
- Wi-Fi: Settings > Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth: Settings > Bluetooth

If Control Center will not open inside an app
Control Center access from within apps has a separate setting. Open Settings > Control Center and check that Access Within Apps is on. If the problem occurs only while the phone is locked, check Control Center under Allow Access When Locked in the Face ID or Touch ID passcode settings instead.
