QuestLHSync aligns SteamVR lighthouse devices with a Steam Frame’s inside-out tracking by having the headset’s cameras observe SteamVR 2.0 base-station flashes. The project says this workflow needs no tracker mounted on the headset and can replace SpaceCalibrator for this purpose. It is a documented project capability, not an independently verified accuracy or performance claim.
How QuestLHSync works
Steam Frame tracks the headset and controllers with outward-facing monochrome cameras. QuestLHSync uses the camera system as a reference: the headset component reports observed bright spots from SteamVR 2.0 base stations, and a PC-side SteamVR driver calculates an alignment for lighthouse devices. The project says it sends spot positions rather than camera images.
The software has two parts. On Steam Frame, a user service and small SteamVR driver provide camera observations over the local network. On the Windows PC, a SteamVR driver computes and applies the alignment and adds a QuestLHSync page to the SteamVR dashboard. Valve’s Steam Frame product specifications describe four outward-facing monochrome cameras for controller and headset tracking, along with interior eye-tracking cameras and infrared illuminators for tracking in dark environments.
What you need before installing
- SteamVR 2.0 base stations. Version 1.0 stations are explicitly unsupported.
- A Windows PC running SteamVR and a headset connected to it through a supported streaming transport. The project lists Steam Link, Link, Air Link, Virtual Desktop, ALVR, and CreoleCast.
- PC and headset on the same local network. The headset service has no authentication, so the project recommends using it only on a trusted network.
- At least one lighthouse device powered on, such as a tracker or Index controller. The README says SteamVR shows base stations only while a lighthouse device is on.
- A compatible headset installation. The Steam Frame instructions use a user-level package and do not require root or a developer password. Quest support requires a rooted headset with Magisk.
Steam Frame and Quest support are not equally tested
The project documents Steam Frame installation, but its README does not establish independent validation or measured accuracy on Steam Frame. For Quest, it lists Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S; Quest Pro is identified as tested, while Quest 3 and Quest 3S are explicitly untried. Treat those compatibility statements as the project’s documented status, not as equivalent test results.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Installing and starting QuestLHSync
Follow the current installation instructions in the QuestLHSync README. Its high-level process is:
- Install the headset-side component and the PC-side SteamVR driver using the README’s instructions for your headset.
- Keep SteamVR closed while registering the PC driver, as the project directs.
- Start SteamVR, then open the QuestLHSync page in the SteamVR dashboard.
- On first use, look around so the headset cameras can see both base stations. The project recommends wearing a tracker or holding a controller while the stations are first identified.
- Allow the software to establish and save the alignment, following any prompts shown in its dashboard page.
For Steam Frame, the documented headset procedure unpacks an archive, runs an installation script, starts a user service, and restarts headset-side SteamVR once to load the small driver. Use the project’s instructions for the exact commands and package; the README’s procedure is project guidance, not an independently tested walkthrough.

Disable other tools that adjust lighthouse poses
Before using QuestLHSync, disable SpaceCalibrator, OpenVR-SpaceSync, and any other software that modifies lighthouse-device poses. The QuestLHSync README warns that two tools correcting the same devices conflict, so do not run multiple pose-correction systems together.
The approaches differ. QuestLHSync uses camera observations of base-station flashes and says it does not require a headset-mounted tracker. OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator’s upstream README describes manually selecting a device from each tracking system, holding them together, and moving them through different orientations to calibrate; it also warns that extensive room movement can cause nontrivial drift between systems. That is a difference in method and documented caveats, not proof that QuestLHSync is more accurate or has less drift.

Network privacy and security
The headset component responds to anyone on the local network without authentication. According to the project, it transmits bright-spot positions, camera calibration, and the headset’s serial number, model, and firmware; it does not send camera images. The project says camera reads occur only while a PC is connected and recommends using QuestLHSync on a trusted network. Consider who can access that network before installing the service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is—and is not—established about accuracy
The project describes how QuestLHSync aligns tracking spaces, but the available documentation does not provide an independent benchmark or a named third-party accuracy measurement. No performance advantage over SpaceCalibrator is established. The Quest Pro test status and the untried status for Quest 3 and Quest 3S are the project’s own disclosures; they should not be read as independent testing of Steam Frame either.
