Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

If the error persists, investigate the full DISM and CBS logs alongside the exact Windows build and command rather than inferring a cause from the message alone.
What DISM Error 1734 means—and what it does not
The message may appear when DISM fails during Windows servicing. Microsoft’s general image-repair documentation explains how to assess and repair a Windows image, but it does not identify Error 1734 as having one specific cause or prescribe an error-specific fix. Reports in Microsoft Q&A describe the message in different Windows Server servicing situations; they are individual cases, not a confirmed diagnosis that applies to every system.
In particular, “The array bounds are invalid” is not enough evidence to conclude that an array, keyboard, package, or particular Windows component is responsible. Treat it as a prompt to examine the servicing operation and its logs.
Check the Windows image health
Open Command Prompt or Windows Terminal with administrator privileges on the affected system. Microsoft documents these commands for an online Windows image:

Scan the image:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth -
Check whether DISM reports the image as healthy, repairable, or non-repairable:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
These checks provide image-health information; they do not, by themselves, explain why Error 1734 occurred. See Microsoft’s Repair a Windows Image documentation for the documented workflow and command options.

Use RestoreHealth only when the image is repairable
If DISM reports that the image is repairable, Microsoft documents this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
This is the supported baseline for repairing a repairable image, not a guaranteed cure for Error 1734. The error-specific reports do not establish that rerunning this command will resolve the issue.
When you need to specify a repair source
Microsoft also documents using /Source:<path> with /RestoreHealth to provide repair files. Those files must be available at the path you specify and suitable for the repair. The documentation describes /LimitAccess as preventing DISM from using Windows Update as a repair source; use it only when that is intended.

A Windows Server 2016 user reported that a WIM-source attempt returned 0x800f081f. That report does not establish why the selected source failed, nor does it show that a particular ISO or WIM index is a general fix. Verify your source and system context rather than copying a source path or index from an unrelated case.
Review the DISM and CBS logs
Record the complete command, when it failed, the exact error context, and the Windows edition, version, and build. Then review the full DISM log, not just the final console line:

Collect the logs around a fresh reproduction if practical. Look for the operation and HRESULT associated with the failure, and compare the surrounding entries. A final message alone—or a log excerpt from a different system—does not establish a universal Error 1734 signature. In one Microsoft Q&A discussion about edition conversion, respondents requested CBS logs, but the reports do not identify a single log pattern that diagnoses this error across cases.

One Windows Server 2016 report involved DISM errors during troubleshooting of a physical keyboard input problem. The poster later said an update to a particular version of RMM software resolved the keyboard input issue, while the DISM errors remained unresolved. That case does not show that the RMM software caused Error 1734, or that changing it repairs DISM.
Investigate the symptom that prompted DISM separately from the servicing failure. A fix for the original symptom is not evidence that the Windows image was repaired.

What to avoid concluding from case reports

Do not treat an anecdotal report as proof that a specific update, repair source, WIM index, or software change fixes Error 1734 generally.

Do not name a package or component as the cause without evidence from the affected system’s servicing logs.

Do not assume that a successful fix for another symptom also resolved the DISM failure.

Before a major recovery action or server change, account for backups, workloads, and operational impact; the cited case discussions do not validate a universal recovery procedure for this error.
