The Lava Agni 3’s 1.74-inch rear AMOLED screen is more than decoration: it can show notifications, help manage calls and music, and act as a viewfinder for selfies taken with the main camera. That feature gives the phone a distinctive use case, but it does not make the Agni 3 an all-round winner. Reviews found solid everyday performance and a good main display, while camera output—especially detail, portraits and low-light shots—lags some similarly priced rivals.
What the Agni 3’s two displays actually do
The phone pairs a 6.78-inch, 1.5K curved AMOLED front display with a 1.74-inch AMOLED panel on the back. Lava calls the smaller panel the “Insta screen.” It is a compact control and preview display, not a second full-sized smartphone screen.
Lava lists rear-screen access to notifications, calls, quick replies, music controls, steps and calories, recorder, stopwatch, alarm and timer. India Today also describes checking charging information and handling basic tasks without waking the main display. The practical benefit is greatest if you often place the phone face down or want quick information without turning it over.

The rear display can show a preview while you take a selfie with the phone’s main rear camera. Lava product head Sumit Singh described the idea to Gadgets 360: “With the dual display, you can use your main camera sensor as the selfie camera.” That gives you the option of framing yourself with the higher-resolution rear camera rather than the 16MP front camera. It is a useful workaround, though it does not fix the phone’s broader camera shortcomings.
The Action Key adds a separate shortcut
India Today’s review says the customizable Action Key defaults to screenshot on a single click, flashlight on a double click, and ringer/silent switching on a long press. Its value depends on whether you use those shortcuts often enough to justify another button.
Design and front-screen experience
The rear screen sits within a prominent camera island on a glass-backed design. Mint’s reviewer used the 8GB/256GB Heather Glass model as a primary phone for a week and described it as weighing around 215g; Lava’s specification lists 212g. These figures come from different sources and should be treated as a small measurement or sample difference, not as evidence of two distinct versions.
The 6.78-inch front AMOLED display has a 120Hz refresh rate and a listed peak brightness of 1,200 nits. Mint found it good for multimedia, while also noting some rear vibration at loud speaker levels. In contrast, 91mobiles found outdoor visibility underwhelming. If you regularly use your phone in bright sun, that review’s caveat matters more than the peak-brightness figure alone.

Performance: capable for everyday use, with review-specific gaming results
The Agni 3 uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor with 8GB RAM. 91mobiles judged its performance broadly in line with other phones using the Dimensity 7300 platform. Its October 2024 tests recorded 6,76,483 in AnTuTu, 1,041 single-core and 3,239 multi-core in Geekbench, and 74.6% retention of peak performance in its Burnout CPU Throttle test.
In that review’s 30-minute gaming sessions, BGMI averaged 36.12 FPS and raised temperature by 7.9°C; Call of Duty averaged 54.6 FPS using High graphics and Max frame settings. These are results from a particular review unit, software and game versions, not a promise of identical results on every device or in current versions of those games.
Camera quality: the clearest compromise
The rear-camera hardware comprises a 50MP Sony Quad-Bayer main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x super zoom with electronic stabilization (EIS), and an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 112-degree field of view. The front camera is 16MP with EIS.

Despite the versatile specifications, 91mobiles’ comparisons found that the main camera captured less detail and sharpness than rivals, and that the ultrawide also lagged in detail. The review noted imperfect portrait edge detection, a tendency for the selfie camera to overexpose bright faces, and grainier images in low light. Longer low-light exposures could look brighter but also noisier. The rear screen helps you use the main camera for self-portraits; it does not improve the cameras’ general image processing.

Lava lists a 5,000mAh battery and support for 66W charging. In 91mobiles’ tests, a supplied charger took the phone from 20% to 100% in about 43 minutes. Its PCMark battery test recorded 10 hours and 20 minutes of screen time with 20% charge remaining. The phone used 4% in a 30-minute video-streaming test and lost 21 percentage points across 30 minutes each of BGMI, Call of Duty and Real Racing 3. These are review conditions rather than guarantees for a different mix of brightness, network use and apps.
Charger inclusion is not consistent across configurations and listings. Mint’s review unit came with a 66W adapter, while Lava’s store page lists variants both with and without a charger. Check the exact box contents before buying rather than assuming 66W charging means an adapter is included.

Software, storage and support
91mobiles reported that the phone launched with Android 14 and a near-stock-style interface. Its review found 31 preinstalled Google and Lava apps, with no third-party apps or ads observed. The same review reported Lava’s policy at the time as three major Android-version updates and four years of security updates. That is a launch-period report, not confirmation of the current Android version or how many updates remain.
The Agni 3 is offered with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB storage. Lava lists no expandable memory, so choose capacity with your likely photo, video and app use in mind.

How it compares with alternatives
There is no single best choice for every buyer. In its 2024 comparison, 91mobiles found stronger camera output from the Realme P2 Pro, Nothing Phone (2a) and Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, and suggested the Nothing for power users and the Motorola for camera enthusiasts. Those are that review’s recommendations, not a current market ranking. Compare the phones at the price and configuration available when you shop.

| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Camera detail, ultrawide and low-light photos | The Agni 3’s camera system is versatile on paper, but 91mobiles found rivals stronger in image quality. |
| Rear-screen usefulness | The Agni 3 offers quick controls and rear-camera selfie framing; those features matter only if they fit your habits. |
| Performance in your apps and games | Review benchmarks offer a useful reference, but your games, software versions and settings affect results. |
| Software policy and interface | Compare the update commitment and interface experience you can verify for each model. |
| Display visibility | Peak brightness is not the only consideration; 91mobiles flagged outdoor visibility on the Agni 3. |
| Battery and charging bundle | Check both battery performance and whether the specific listing includes a compatible charger. |
| Storage and handling | Choose between 128GB and 256GB, note the lack of microSD expansion, and consider the phone’s roughly 212–215g reported weight. |
| Live price and configuration | Compare the exact RAM/storage variant, seller, stock status and included accessories rather than relying on old launch prices. |
Price and availability: verify the live listing
Published prices differ by source, date, promotion, storage and charger bundle. At review time, 91mobiles listed ₹20,999 for 8GB/128GB without a charger, ₹22,999 for that configuration with a 66W charger, and ₹24,999 for 8GB/256GB. Mint described a starting price of ₹19,999, while India Today reported ₹20,999. Lava’s official store page displayed ₹21,999 and “Sold Out” when accessed for this article. These are launch-period or page-access figures, not a statement of today’s price or stock.
Before ordering, confirm the seller, the 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB configuration, current availability, and whether the charger is in the box. The official product specifications and store listing are available on Lava’s Agni 3 product page.
Verdict: who should buy the Lava Agni 3?
Consider the Agni 3 if you genuinely want its rear display—for discreet quick checks, call and music controls, or framing selfies with the rear camera—and if its live price and bundle are competitive. Its display, everyday performance and shortcut features make it more than a novelty. Choose a camera-focused alternative if sharp detail, dependable portraits or low-light photography matter more than the secondary screen.
