IAR lists Arm and Renesas RX support, with minimum IAR Embedded Workbench versions of 7.20 and 3.10, respectively. It is a separate add-on, not a replacement for static analysis—and its checks can increase code size and slow execution.
What does IAR C-RUN detect?
C-RUN checks for errors during execution rather than trying to find every potential issue before the program runs. IAR describes it as a way to detect erroneous code constructions while an application is running. Its listed checks include arithmetic errors, pointer bounds violations, heap problems, double-free operations and leaked heap blocks. Reports can include call-stack information and code correlation, and developers can control which rules are enabled. IAR C-RUN product page
Which IAR environments and versions support C-RUN?
IAR’s current C-RUN product page lists Arm and Renesas RX architectures. It specifies IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm version 7.20 or later and IAR Embedded Workbench for RX version 3.10 or later. These are published minimum versions, not a guarantee that every project configuration or license is compatible; check the version and license for the specific project. IAR C-RUN product page
How do you use C-RUN in a project?
The usual process is to choose the checks you want, rebuild with them enabled, then run the application in the debugger and inspect any reports. IAR says the debugger can show details about a detected failure and the call chain that led to it. IAR’s C-RUN workflow overview

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enable the C-RUN options and rules appropriate to the project.
- Rebuild the project so the selected checks are included.
- Run the application in the debugger and exercise the relevant code paths.
- Inspect reported failures, including available call-stack and code-location detail, then investigate and correct the underlying issue.
For automated workflows, IAR describes using C-SPY batch mode and redirecting output to logs or external reporting tools. Its product page also describes CI/CD integration. The exact setup depends on the project and build pipeline. IAR’s C-RUN workflow overview · IAR C-RUN product page
How is C-RUN different from C-STAT?
C-RUN monitors code as it executes; C-STAT analyzes source statically to find potential issues before execution. They address different stages of development and are not interchangeable. Runtime checking can expose problems along exercised execution paths, while static analysis can examine code without requiring those paths to run. IAR presents both as complementary analysis approaches. IAR C-RUN product page

What does C-RUN cost in code size and speed?
C-RUN works by instrumenting application code or replacing C/C++ library functionality with checked implementations. IAR’s Arm 10.1x documentation cautions that this generally makes code larger and execution slower. The impact depends on the checks, code and target; IAR’s cited documentation does not provide a universal overhead percentage. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm 10.1x documentation
Can you try C-RUN before buying a license?
Yes. IAR’s current evaluation page describes a no-charge 14-day evaluation for Arm and RX. During the evaluation, C-RUN analyzes up to 12 KB of compiled code per build. These are stated evaluation limits, not general production limits. IAR software evaluation page

IAR describes C-RUN as a separate add-on or license upgrade for IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm and RX. Its C-RUN page provides a request-pricing route; it does not state a current price, so ask IAR for a quote. IAR’s C-RUN overview · IAR C-RUN product page
Do you need a debug probe to use C-RUN?
IAR does not present a probe as a C-RUN requirement. Embedded Workbench supports probes including I-jet, J-Link, PE Micro and ST-LINK, but whether a particular probe works with a particular board depends on the target setup. Verify the board, interface and probe model before choosing hardware. IAR Embedded Workbench product page

What to compare when evaluating runtime analysis
When assessing C-RUN or another runtime-analysis approach, compare the checks available, whether analysis is static or requires execution, supported architectures and tool versions, integration with the debugger and CI process, and the effect of instrumentation on size and speed. A fit depends on the target and workflow; the cited product information does not establish a universal performance ranking.
