The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and Dimensity 8400 appear close enough to compare, but there is an important naming caveat: MediaTek’s official product page documents the Dimensity 8400, while the “Dimensity 8400 Max” name appears in a third-party listing. The available evidence does not establish whether “Max” is the same chip, a tuned phone-specific version, or a distinct variant. The benchmark figures below are for the standard Dimensity 8400—not verified 8400 Max results.

What is the difference between Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and Dimensity 8400 Max?

Qualcomm specifies the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 with a 64-bit Kryo CPU running at up to 2.8 GHz, Adreno graphics, and an X63 5G modem-RF system. MediaTek describes the Dimensity 8400 as an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 design using all-big CPU cores. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the standard Dimensity 8400; they do not confirm that a phone marketed with a Dimensity 8400 Max uses identical hardware.

The platforms also differ in their advertised feature sets. Qualcomm lists Vulkan 1.3 and OpenCL 2.0 FP APIs, and Wi-Fi 7 with High Band Simultaneous multi-link through FastConnect 7800. It also promotes Hexagon processing and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0. These are platform capabilities, not guarantees that every phone maker enables every feature. Check the specifications for the exact handset and region. Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 platform specifications.

MediaTek says the Dimensity 8400 offers “up to 41% higher multi-core performance” than its previous-generation Dimensity 8300. That is a vendor-published generational comparison, not a direct result against the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. MediaTek also describes its all-big-core design as delivering “class-leading power efficiency”; this is product positioning, not an independent efficiency test. How do their benchmark scores compare?

NanoReview’s comparison page displays the following scores for the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and standard Dimensity 8400. These are third-party reported results, not measurements reproduced in a controlled test for this article.

Benchmark Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Dimensity 8400 Higher displayed score
AnTuTu 11 total 1,660,924 1,948,428 Dimensity 8400
Geekbench 6 single-core 1,860 1,576 Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
Geekbench 6 multi-core 5,045 6,239 Dimensity 8400

In NanoReview’s displayed data, the Dimensity 8400 leads in AnTuTu 11 and Geekbench 6 multi-core, while the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 leads in Geekbench 6 single-core. Treat the figures as indicative examples: the page combines device results and submissions, and scores can vary with handset, software, cooling, power mode, benchmark version, and test conditions. Which chipset is better for gaming?

The available evidence does not establish which one delivers better sustained gaming in specific phones. A benchmark score alone cannot settle that question: phone cooling, power limits, software tuning, and the game itself affect real-world performance. Qualcomm advertises Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, but that platform feature does not establish a universal gaming advantage across handset implementations.

If you are choosing between two actual phones, compare their sustained performance and cooling in reviews or tests of those exact models. Then weigh the display, battery, camera processing, software support, regional network bands, price, and availability. These phone-level differences can matter more to the decision than a chipset name.

What does “Dimensity 8400 Max” mean?

MediaTek’s official page retrieved for this comparison identifies the Dimensity 8400, not a “Dimensity 8400 Max.” A 91mobiles page uses the Max label, but that listing alone does not establish whether it refers to identical silicon, a handset-specific tuned implementation, or a distinct variant. No independent controlled benchmark of an exact 8400 Max phone implementation is established by the available sources.

Before applying the standard Dimensity 8400’s architecture or scores to a Max-branded phone, check the phone maker’s specification sheet for the exact model. If the manufacturer does not clarify the relationship, treat the Max label and standard 8400 benchmark results as unverified for that handset. 91mobiles Dimensity 8400 Max listing.
