Microsoft named Mustafa Suleyman executive vice president and CEO of Microsoft AI on March 19, 2024, with an initial remit to advance Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. As of Microsoft’s March 17, 2026 update, Suleyman continues to lead its superintelligence work, while Jacob Andreou leads the Copilot experience across consumer and commercial products.
Who is Mustafa Suleyman?
Suleyman is an AI executive and co-founder of DeepMind and Inflection, as Microsoft described him in its 2024 appointment announcement. He joined Microsoft alongside Karén Simonyan, who was named chief scientist of the new Microsoft AI organization.
What role did Microsoft give Suleyman in 2024?
On March 19, 2024, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced Suleyman as executive vice president and CEO of Microsoft AI. Suleyman reported to Nadella and joined Microsoft’s senior leadership team. The organization’s stated purpose was to advance Copilot and Microsoft’s other consumer AI products and research.
The announcement also said teams led by Mikhail Parakhin—including Copilot, Bing, and Edge—and Misha Bilenko’s GenAI team would report to Suleyman. Microsoft said its work continued to build on its partnership with OpenAI. These details describe the structure announced in 2024, not a guarantee that those reporting arrangements remain in place.

How did Microsoft’s Copilot leadership change in 2026?
In a March 17, 2026 update, Microsoft said it was bringing Copilot efforts across consumer and commercial products together as one effort spanning the Copilot experience, Copilot platform, Microsoft 365 apps, and AI models. Jacob Andreou was named leader of the Copilot experience across consumer and commercial.
The same update said Suleyman would continue leading Microsoft’s high-ambition superintelligence work and would report to Nadella. That clarifies the distinction between Suleyman’s continuing AI research remit and leadership of the unified Copilot experience.
