Short answer: In the reported Geekbench 6 comparison, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores higher in multi-core performance, while Apple’s A16 Bionic scores slightly higher in single-core performance. That does not make either chip a universal winner: benchmark scores depend on the phone and test conditions, and AnTuTu results from Android and iOS should not be treated as directly comparable.

At a glance: what the benchmark comparison says

91mobiles reports the following Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu results for the two chips. These are figures shown on that comparison page, not guaranteed results for every phone using either processor.

Benchmark Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Apple A16 Bionic How to read it
Geekbench 6 single-core 2,303 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) 2,398 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) A16 leads in this reported single-core result.
Geekbench 6 multi-core 7,376 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) 5,285 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) Snapdragon leads in this reported multi-core result.
AnTuTu total 2,186,467 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) 1,302,867 (91mobiles, page accessed 2026) Cross-platform totals are not a dependable direct verdict.

NanoReview reports different AnTuTu totals: 2,345,563 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 1,626,008 for A16 Bionic. It labels its sample counts as 443 Snapdragon tests and 36 A16 tests, and explicitly cautions that iOS and Android AnTuTu scores are not directly comparable. The different totals across comparison sites reinforce the need to consider benchmark version, phone, operating system, and cooling rather than treating one score as definitive. See NanoReview’s comparison and 91mobiles’ comparison.

CPU: single-core and multi-core are different stories

Geekbench’s reported single-core scores are close, with A16 Bionic at 2,398 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at 2,303. In the reported multi-core results, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores 7,376 against A16’s 5,285. These figures suggest an A16 advantage in this single-core comparison and a Snapdragon advantage in multi-core work, but they describe the tested results on the comparison page—not every retail phone or workload.

91mobiles lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as an octa-core configuration and A16 Bionic as six-core, and identifies both as 4 nm products. Core count and a process-node label alone do not establish how quickly or efficiently a particular phone performs.

Platform specifications and features

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Qualcomm describes Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as a mobile platform built around a 64-bit Kryo CPU, Adreno graphics, a Hexagon AI subsystem, and an integrated Snapdragon X75 5G modem. The CPU is specified to reach up to 3.4 GHz. Qualcomm also lists a six-core CPU configuration under part number SM8650Q-AB, so the configuration can vary by SKU; FP16 support also varies by SKU.

Qualcomm advertises up to 30% improved CPU performance and 20% improved CPU power efficiency, up to 25% improved graphics performance and 25% improved GPU power efficiency, and 98% faster Hexagon NPU performance. These are Qualcomm’s own comparisons with its prior platform generation, not independent measurements against A16 Bionic. The specifications and claims are on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 page.

Apple A16 Bionic

The available comparison identifies A16 Bionic as a six-core, 4 nm chip. It does not provide equivalent official Apple specification detail for CPU frequencies, graphics APIs, modem peak rates, or AI accelerators. A direct feature-by-feature specification comparison on those points therefore cannot be established from the cited material.

Graphics, AI, connectivity, and real-world performance

The cited benchmark material does not provide a consistent matched GPU test, a game-by-game comparison, or a controlled AI workload comparison. Qualcomm’s Adreno and Hexagon descriptions establish platform features, but they do not by themselves prove that Snapdragon delivers better gaming or AI results in every app. Performance depends on software support and the specific handset as well as the chip.

Likewise, the X75 modem’s listed peak rates describe the Snapdragon platform, not a direct network-speed comparison with an iPhone using A16. Carrier, network conditions, phone design, and regional model can affect connectivity in practice.

Which phones use these chips?

The chips are integrated into phones rather than established here as standalone consumer products. 91mobiles lists OnePlus 12 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 examples, and iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus as A16 Bionic examples. These are examples from the comparison page, not a complete or current availability list. Regional variants, model configurations, stock, and current prices need to be checked for the phone being considered.

What the available evidence cannot determine

There is no controlled, matched-phone comparison here for battery life, heat, sustained gaming, or power efficiency between Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and A16 Bionic. A chip’s peak benchmark or vendor efficiency claim cannot settle how long a specific handset sustains performance or how long its battery lasts. For a purchase decision, compare independent reviews of the exact phone and regional variant, especially if gaming, long workloads, or battery endurance matter.

For a fair device-level comparison, the phones would need to be tested with defined ambient conditions and workloads, the same benchmark versions, and recorded thermal and battery behavior. Without that, the most supportable conclusion remains limited to the reported CPU benchmark pattern: A16 edges the cited single-core result, while Snapdragon leads the cited multi-core result.
