Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 is intended for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, not any Android phone or an iPhone. Samsung’s US product page lists Android 11 or later and at least 3 GB of free RAM in its setup note, but also lists Galaxy devices running Android 9 or later in its broader specifications. Because those requirements differ, check Samsung’s current setup requirements for your exact device before buying or trying to register a tag. Setup also requires a Samsung account and registration through SmartThings Find.

Which phones and tablets work with Samsung SmartTag?

Compatibility depends on the tag model. SmartTag2 registration is designed for Samsung’s Galaxy and SmartThings Find ecosystem. Samsung’s US product page gives two different Android thresholds for Galaxy phones and tablets: its setup note says Android 11 or later with at least 3 GB of free RAM, while its specification section says Galaxy devices with Android 9 or later. Samsung does not explain the difference on that page, so do not assume that every Galaxy device meeting the broader specification can complete setup. Check the requirements for the exact model and software version.

To use SmartTag2, sign in with a Samsung account and register the tag in SmartThings Find. Bluetooth range and UWB features are separate considerations: a Galaxy device that can register or find a tag does not necessarily support the tag’s precision UWB features.

Does Samsung SmartTag work with any Android phone?

No. Samsung’s compatibility guidance is specific to Galaxy devices, and requirements vary by SmartTag generation. Samsung says SmartTag+ supports Android 8.0 or later, but that does not mean it works with third-party Android phones: its support FAQ says third-party Android devices are not supported. SmartTag+’s AR finding feature requires a supported Galaxy device running Android 11 or later. Do not apply one model’s requirement to another generation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • SmartTag2: Samsung’s US page gives the differing Galaxy-device thresholds described above; Samsung account sign-in and SmartThings Find registration are required.
  • SmartTag+: Samsung states Android 8.0 or later for support, but its AR feature needs a supported Galaxy device on Android 11 or later. Third-party Android phones are not supported.

Samsung’s cited guidance does not establish broad compatibility for the original SmartTag across non-Galaxy Android devices. Confirm the requirements for the specific model rather than inferring them from SmartTag+ or SmartTag2.

Can I use a Galaxy SmartTag with an iPhone?

Samsung says iOS devices are not supported for SmartTag+. SmartTag2’s Lost Mode can display contact information when another phone reads the tag’s NFC information, but that is not the same as registering, managing, or tracking the tag from an iPhone. NFC access to Lost Mode should not be mistaken for SmartThings Find compatibility.

Does my Galaxy phone support SmartTag UWB?

Not necessarily. SmartTag2’s Compass View and precise nearby-finding features require a UWB-enabled Galaxy device running Android 11 or later. Samsung names Galaxy Note20 Ultra, Galaxy S21+ and S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and S23 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold2 and later among supported devices. That list and availability can vary with operating system, connected device, and country; check Samsung’s current compatibility details for your model.

SmartTag+ also has a feature-specific requirement: its AR finding feature requires a supported Galaxy device on Android 11 or later. A device meeting a tag’s basic compatibility requirements may still lack the hardware or software needed for a particular finding feature.

How does SmartTag2 find an item nearby or out of range?

Samsung states that SmartTag2 Bluetooth range is up to 120 metres when there are no obstacles. This is a manufacturer-stated maximum, not a guaranteed distance: walls and other physical obstacles can reduce accuracy and range. Beyond Bluetooth range, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network may help locate the tag through opted-in Galaxy users’ devices when they are nearby. That community-network location depends on participating devices being in range; it is not a direct connection from your phone at any distance.

What else should I check before choosing SmartTag2?

  • Verify the exact Galaxy model, Android version, and available free RAM against Samsung’s current setup requirements, especially given the Android 9 specification versus Android 11 setup note.
  • Confirm that the features you want—particularly Compass View or precision nearby finding—are supported by your phone’s UWB hardware and software.
  • Remember that SmartTag2 uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery. Samsung says it comes with its battery attached, so a replacement cell is not a setup prerequisite.
