To take a screenshot on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, press and release the Side button and Volume Down button at the same time. The screen flashes when the capture succeeds. For a long page, use Scroll capture in the screenshot toolbar; for a button-free option, enable Palm swipe to capture if your software offers it.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press and release the Side button and Volume Down button together. Do not hold them down; Samsung’s support instructions specify pressing and releasing.
- Look for the screen flash to confirm the screenshot was captured.
Samsung’s general instructions describe the Side and Volume Down button method for Galaxy phones. The button labels or behavior can vary somewhat with software and model; if the steps differ on your device, search Settings for the relevant feature name.
Take a screenshot without pressing buttons
Enable Palm swipe to capture
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture, if the option is available.
- Swipe the edge of your hand across the screen to capture it.
The setting’s availability and exact menu route can depend on the software version and model. If you do not see it, search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.” Samsung’s support pages describe this gesture, but do not map every S22 Ultra software build.
Capture more than one screen with Scroll capture
- Take a standard screenshot while viewing a page or other content that continues below the screen.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture.
- Continue tapping the control to capture more of the content, stopping when you reach the section you need.
Scroll capture only appears when the app and content support it. If the control is missing, that screen may not be eligible for extended capture.

Use the S Pen to capture and annotate
The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a built-in S Pen, and Samsung’s S22 Ultra-specific feature page lists Capture & Write among its S Pen actions. It provides a capture-and-annotation route when you want to mark up what you capture. The feature page was updated in 2022, so the menu presentation may differ on current software.
Find your screenshot
Screenshots are saved in Gallery. Samsung’s UK guide gives the path Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. Samsung support for Canadian mobile devices likewise says the image is automatically saved in Gallery. Album organization or labels may vary by software or region.

When a screenshot will not work
- The screen does not flash: Press and release Side and Volume Down together rather than holding the buttons. Make sure both buttons are pressed at the same time.
- Palm swipe is unavailable or does nothing: Check Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures, or search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.” The option may not be available on every software configuration.
- Scroll capture is missing: The app or content may not support extended capture; the option is offered from the toolbar after a standard screenshot.
- A particular screen refuses capture: Some apps and screens block screenshots for security reasons. That restriction may be intentional rather than a problem with the phone’s buttons.
Samsung’s instructions can differ by region, carrier, and software version. If a menu path here does not match your phone, use Settings search to find the feature by name.
