To find a missing Samsung Galaxy phone, open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find on another Galaxy device or visit the service website, then sign in with the Samsung account linked to the missing phone. Select the phone to see its available location and choose an action such as Ring, Lock, or Erase data. These services can show a last known location rather than a live one, and what you can do depends on the phone’s settings, connection, model, and region.
Before your Samsung phone goes missing: enable finding
Remote finding works best when the phone was prepared in advance. Samsung’s current US guide directs users on supported software to Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection. Confirm that Allow this phone to be found, Send last location, and Offline finding are enabled, and that the phone is signed in to your Samsung account. Menu names and locations vary by software version and market; if the path differs, search Settings for “Find My Mobile” or “Lost device protection.” Samsung’s US lost-phone guide and its UK Samsung Find page describe different routes in some contexts.
Samsung account access matters: use the account already associated with the missing device, not simply any Samsung account you can sign into. If you cannot access that account, use Samsung’s account recovery options before relying on remote controls.

How to locate a lost Samsung Galaxy phone
- Open a Samsung finding service. Use the Samsung Find or SmartThings Find app on a compatible Galaxy device, or open Samsung’s corresponding service in a browser. Samsung’s US instructions cover both services.
- Sign in to the Samsung account linked to the phone. Complete any account verification requested.
- Select the missing phone from the device list. Review the location and its status; do not assume a displayed position is current or exact.
- Choose the action that fits the situation. Ring is useful if you think the phone is nearby. Track location can provide updates; Samsung says its US service updates every 15 minutes. Use Lock to protect access, and consider Erase data only when the risk to your information outweighs the loss of on-device data.
The services overlap in their core purpose and can offer finding, ringing, locking, and erasing functions, but the controls shown depend on device compatibility, market availability, account and registration state, and the particular interface. Samsung’s UK SmartThings Find and UK Samsung Find pages describe the services; neither implies every feature is available on every Galaxy model.

Make the phone ring—even if it is on silent
If the phone may be in your home, office, or car, select Ring in the finding service. Samsung says the ring sounds for one minute in its current US instructions, including when the phone is muted or set to vibrate. This is a service detail, not a guarantee that the phone will ring if it is powered off, unreachable, or otherwise unable to receive the command. Samsung’s US guide describes the feature.
Can you track a Samsung phone if it is offline?
Sometimes, but offline finding is not guaranteed live GPS tracking. If offline finding was enabled, nearby Galaxy devices in Samsung’s Find Node network may help relay a location even when the missing phone itself has no internet connection. Samsung warns that Find Nodes do not indicate the phone’s exact location, so treat a result as an aid to narrowing down where it may be, not as proof of its precise position. If the phone is powered off, Samsung’s US instructions say the service can show only its last known location. A displayed location may therefore be stale; a 15-minute update interval for Track location, as described in Samsung’s US guide, is not continuous tracking. Availability and behavior vary by supported device, software, country, and carrier. Samsung US and its UK Samsung Find page describe these limitations.

Lock it when you want to protect access and preserve the chance of recovery
Use Lock in the finding service to protect the phone. Samsung’s US guide describes setting a PIN and adding an optional contact message for the lock screen. If the phone might be lost rather than stolen, a message can let an honest finder contact you without unlocking it. Which lock options appear may vary by model and region. Erase only after weighing the consequences
Erase data is a protective last resort: it removes data from the phone and may end your ability to use the finding service for that device. Back up first if you can. Samsung’s US guidance notes that a Google account registered on the phone may be required after a factory reset through Google device protection. Samsung India says an erase command issued while the phone is offline is carried out when it next comes online, and warns that erasing ends SmartThings Find service for that device. These details are market-specific; see Samsung US and Samsung India.
If you suspect the phone was stolen
Do not go to the location shown on the map or confront anyone. Samsung’s US support guidance explicitly says not to go directly to the mapped location for a stolen phone or tablet. Contact local authorities and let them handle recovery. You can also contact your carrier to ask about suspending the line or any locating service it offers. Samsung’s safety guidance covers this situation.

- Use Lock promptly if you can reach the service and want to protect the device while preserving a chance of recovery.
- Contact your carrier about the line and your account; ask whether it can suspend service.
- Consider Erase data if protecting personal information takes priority over recovering data or continuing to locate the phone.
What to expect when the service cannot find the phone
If the device does not appear, check that you signed in with the Samsung account associated with it. If it appears but has no current location, it may be offline, powered off, or unable to report. Offline finding can help only when configured and supported; it does not promise a precise position. Samsung’s instructions and feature availability differ by market, so consult the support page for the country where the phone was sold.
