Silicon Optix announced the Reon-VX on June 7, 2006, as a video-processing chip for higher-volume home-theater and commercial equipment. It brought selected HQV processing features to products such as DVD players, projectors, televisions, and A/V receivers; it was a component inside those products, not a standalone player or display.

What Reon-VX was—and what “mainstream” meant

Silicon Optix positioned Reon-VX for high-volume products handling typical home-theater content. The company contrasted it with its flagship Realta processor, which the announcement described as performing one trillion operations per second. That figure referred to Realta, not Reon-VX.

Silicon Optix said Reon-VX could choose processing algorithms dynamically on a per-pixel basis. Chairman and CEO Paul Russo described the goal as giving mainstream markets the opportunity to experience HQV processing. “Mainstream” referred to the intended product market and integration scale, not a claim that every device using the chip would produce identical results. Audioholics’ June 7, 2006 coverage of the announcement lists target products including plasma and LCD televisions, rear-projection TVs, home-theater and business projectors, A/V receivers, PVRs, set-top boxes, media-center PCs, and DVD players, including Blu-ray and HD DVD models.

What HQV processing was intended to do

The published feature set addresses common video-processing tasks: converting interlaced video for progressive displays, reducing artifacts, cleaning up noisy sources, and resizing or geometrically adjusting the picture. Silicon Optix and IDT described the following functions; these are vendor specifications and claims, not independent test results.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Deinterlacing, cadence, and edges

  • Deinterlacing: The product flyer specifies 1080i-to-1080p deinterlacing, converting interlaced HD video into progressive output.
  • Film and video detection: Automatic detection and 3:2 and 2:2 cadence detection were listed to help process film-derived and video-originated material appropriately.
  • Diagonal filtering and edge treatment: Multidirectional diagonal filtering and edge anti-aliasing were intended to reduce jagged edges and artifacts on diagonal lines.

Noise, detail, and color

  • Noise reduction: Documentation lists SD codec noise reduction and temporal pixel-motion/noise processing.
  • Detail and contrast: Detail enhancement and adaptive contrast enhancement were among the announced processing features.
  • Color handling: Silicon Optix described selective enhancement of color regions and correction of color-edge artifacts and chroma upsampling errors.

Scaling, geometry, and technical claims

  • Scaling and geometry: Reon-VX included eWARP VX geometry processing, intended to support flexible projector placement and image adjustment.
  • Internal processing: Silicon Optix claimed a full 10-bit internal data path and input-to-output 4:4:4 color processing. These are processing-path specifications; on their own, they do not establish a finished device’s input/output support or its visible image quality.
  • Multiple channels: The June 2006 announcement said the chip could process two full HD or SD resolution channels, which the company said enabled equal image quality for windows in split-screen picture-in-picture mode.

The flyer is hosted by DigiKey as an IDT REON VX Advanced Image Processor flyer. Its publication year is not established in the available record.

What the feature list does—and does not—tell you

A processor’s specifications do not guarantee the same picture from every finished product. Implementation depends on the device’s design, supported connections and formats, settings, and source material. The announcement, flyer, and product reports establish that Reon-VX was marketed with these functions and integrated into named products; they do not provide controlled independent comparisons, measured test scores, or proof that every listed function performed equally well in each device.

These are historical products and launch-era claims from 2006–2007. The cited material does not establish current availability, prices, long-term reliability, or how Reon-VX compares with modern video processing. The HD-XA2 is therefore a documented example of a player with Reon-VX, not a recommendation for a current setup. Nor does an HQV label alone establish that a device contains this particular chip.
