The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 is a premium business laptop that converts into a tablet, tent, or stand, and its value depends on whether you will use those modes or its optional pen. It offers strong connectivity and a choice of touch displays, but the panel, memory, battery life, pen bundle, and other features vary by configuration. Choose the exact SKU carefully: its memory is soldered, so it cannot be upgraded later.
What the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 is—and who it suits
This is a 14-inch Windows business convertible with a 360-degree hinge. You can use it as a conventional laptop or fold it into tent, stand, or tablet mode. Lenovo’s May 6, 2026 ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 9 Product Specifications Reference lists a starting weight of 1.35 kg (2.97 lb); weight varies with the build.
It is a good fit for people who want a business-oriented laptop and will regularly annotate documents, present in tent mode, or work with the screen folded back. TechRadar’s roundup of its writing-laptop review describes using portrait orientation and a stylus to mark up documents, and reports positive impressions of the keyboard, trackpad, and performance during writing, editing, CMS uploads, and video calls. Those are review observations, not controlled benchmark results.

If you will use it only as a laptop, the convertible design and pen support may add less value to your decision. Its integrated Intel graphics also make it a productivity convertible rather than a discrete-GPU workstation.
#1 Best Overall
- With 16 GB of memory, users can run many programs without losing execution
- The 14" 1920 x 1200 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
Which configuration should you choose?
Lenovo lists Core Ultra 5 125U and 135U, and Core Ultra 7 155U and 165U processors. The available processor, screen, memory, wireless options, touchpad, and warranty depend on the SKU and market. TechRadar’s review roundup summarizes its reviewed configuration as a Core Ultra 7 model with integrated graphics, up to 32GB RAM, a 14-inch WUXGA screen, and up to 1TB storage. Lenovo’s May 2026 platform reference lists broader options, including up to 64GB memory and 2TB storage; check the configuration you are actually buying rather than assuming every unit matches the review.
| Choice | What Lenovo lists | How to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB LPDDR5X, soldered; no memory slots | Choose enough for your expected workload at purchase. You cannot add or replace system memory later. |
| Storage | One M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot; Lenovo-listed configurations up to 2TB | Pick capacity for your files and applications. The single slot is the only listed internal storage slot. |
| Processor | Core Ultra 5 125U/135U or Core Ultra 7 155U/165U; integrated Intel graphics | Compare the price and configuration available in your market; the platform does not list discrete graphics. |
| Display | 14-inch WUXGA IPS touch at 400 or 500 nits, or 2.8K OLED touch at 120Hz | Choose based on resolution, refresh rate, color needs, and the exact SKU’s price and availability. |
The display options are not interchangeable. Lenovo lists the WUXGA IPS panels at 1920×1200, 60Hz, and 100% sRGB. Its 2880×1800 OLED option is 120Hz, with 100% DCI-P3 and DisplayHDR 400/Dolby Vision. Confirm the exact panel on the retailer listing or machine type: a product family description alone does not establish which screen a particular unit has.
How long does its battery last?
Lenovo’s May 2026 figures are vendor lab results, not a promise of mixed-workday runtime. In MobileMark 25 at 250 nits, Lenovo reports the following maximums for these specific configurations and power modes:
| Configuration | Lenovo MobileMark 25 result | Test setup |
|---|---|---|
| WUXGA touch, Core Ultra 7 165U, 16GB LPDDR5X | Up to 15.1 hours; performance score 597 | Windows 11, 57Wh battery, best power efficiency mode, 250 nits |
| WUXGA touch, Core Ultra 5 125U, 32GB LPDDR5X | Up to 14.4 hours; performance score 605 | Windows 11, 57Wh battery, best power efficiency mode, 250 nits |
| 2.8K OLED touch, Core Ultra 7 165U, 64GB LPDDR5X | Up to 9.9 hours; performance score 732 | Windows 11, 57Wh battery, balanced power mode, 250 nits |
Because the screen, memory, and power mode differ, these results are not a controlled comparison of display types alone. Lenovo says actual battery life varies with configuration, software, wireless use, power settings, brightness, battery age, and other factors. It also reports local video playback and JEITA-BAT 3.0 results, but those use different test conditions and should not be treated as direct estimates of mixed work.
Lenovo specifies a 57Wh battery and says Rapid Charge can reach 80% in one hour with a 65W adapter when the laptop is powered off, in standby, or in hibernation. A spare 65W USB-C PD charger may be useful if you work in more than one place, but check the adapter included with your particular retail unit.
Rank #2
- With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- The 14" 1920 x 1200 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
Does it come with a pen?
Lenovo lists Slim Pen support, including magnetic attachment, tilt detection, and USB-C charging, but its platform specification says no pen is bundled. Check the box contents for the exact SKU or retailer bundle before buying; if it is not included and you want to annotate or draw, budget for a separate pen.
What ports and wireless options does it have?
Lenovo lists two USB-A 5Gbps ports, two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 USB-C ports rated up to 40Gbps, HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5mm headset combo jack. The USB-C ports support USB Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 2.1; Lenovo lists HDMI output up to 4K at 60Hz. Docking solutions connect via Thunderbolt or USB-C, so check a dock’s power delivery, display support, and ports against your setup.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTechRadar’s review roundup notes that the USB-C ports are on one side, which may matter if you connect a charger or dock from a particular desk position. Lenovo lists Wi-Fi 6E; Wi-Fi 7 appears as a special-bid option, not a feature to assume on every retail unit. WWAN and SIM/eSIM capabilities likewise depend on model and market.
What did the review find—and what should buyers verify?
TechRadar’s assessment highlights convertible flexibility, keyboard and trackpad, display, battery life, and port selection among the strengths. It lists price, fingerprint-reader placement, and one-sided USB-C placement among the drawbacks. These are that publication’s impressions of its reviewed unit, not universal measurements or guarantees for every configuration.
Before paying, match the machine type and configuration to the features you care about. Check the panel, memory, storage, wireless and WWAN options, touchpad, warranty, included adapter, and pen contents. Lenovo notes in its May 6, 2026 PSREF: “Lenovo reserves the right to change specifications or other product information without notice.” Retail pricing and stock vary by market and are not established by the platform specifications, so verify them with the seller.
