To put it back, keep the front higher than the rear, engage the upper hook in its notch, and lower the shelf until the lower hook seats. Shelf and crisper assemblies vary by model, so stop if the parts do not match these steps.
How do I remove a standard Samsung refrigerator shelf?
- Open the refrigerator door fully. This gives the shelf room to move.
- Remove food and containers. Tempered glass shelves are heavy, so make sure you can support the shelf securely.
- Lift and slide. Hold the front edge, lift it gently just enough to release it, and slide the shelf out. Do not force it or raise it farther than needed: Samsung Singapore warns that fully lifting a shelf during removal or reinsertion can damage the refrigerator’s rear wall. Samsung’s instructions describe the common method as: “To remove a shelf, hold the front of the shelf, and then gently lift up and slide it out.” Samsung US Support | Samsung Singapore Support
How do I put the shelf back?
- Angle the shelf so its front edge is higher than its back.
- Fit the upper hook into the upper notch.
- Lower the shelf so the lower hook engages. Check that it is seated securely before replacing food.

Removing the shelf above the crisper drawers
The shelf above the crispers may be a simpler shelf that slides out after drawer removal, or a more involved glass-and-frame assembly. Samsung documents both types, so do not assume the tabs and clips described below are present on every refrigerator.
Simpler configuration
Remove the vegetable drawers, support the shelf, lift one side, and slide it out. If it does not release with gentle movement, stop and check the model’s manual rather than forcing it. Samsung US Support | Samsung Canada Support

Glass-and-frame configuration
Some assemblies require more disassembly before the glass can come free. Samsung’s instructions describe removing lower door bins and both crisper drawers, releasing paired tabs near the drawer divider and water-filter housing, lifting the shelf away from the housing, then carefully freeing the glass from the rear wall and angling it out. The frame may also have retainer clips at its rear left and right corners.
Only release tabs or clips if they match your assembly and you can support the glass throughout. Do not pry at a part that does not move as expected. Reassemble by reversing the steps that apply to your model. Samsung US Support | Samsung Canada Support

Clean removed shelves without risking the glass
Let a cold glass shelf reach room temperature before washing it. Samsung warns that warm or hot water on cold glass can cause it to shatter; once the glass is no longer cold, use lukewarm water. Samsung’s US care checklist also recommends warm soapy water for removed shelves, but the temperature warning takes priority when the shelf is cold. Shelf appearance and compartment layout differ by model, and Samsung notes that guidance may vary by country. Singapore’s support page says designs can differ by model and country; Samsung Canada says its instructions address refrigerators sold in Canada and that settings or options may differ elsewhere. Use the support page and manual for your refrigerator’s region and exact model rather than treating a similar-looking shelf as identical.
