To share a saved password with someone outside your 1Password family or team, open the item, choose Share, set who can open the link and when it expires, then send the link. The recipient can view and copy the shared details in a browser without a 1Password account. For ongoing access among family or coworkers who already use your account, use a shared vault instead.
Choose between a share link and a shared vault

Use a link when you need to hand over a copy for a limited purpose. Choose a shared vault when people need continuing access to the item within 1Password.
How do I share a password with someone?
- Open and unlock 1Password. Find the password item and select Share. In the browser extension, this command opens the item on 1Password.com.
- Choose the expiration and audience. Select whether anyone with the link can view it or restrict it to specific people by entering their email addresses. In a Business account, organization policy may also allow sharing with any email address across an approved domain.
- Copy and send the link. Select Copy Link, then send it by email, text, or another channel. If you specified recipient email addresses, each recipient must verify their address before viewing.
- Share again after changing the item. A link gives access to a copy, not a live view of the original. If you edit the original password item later, create and send a new link for the updated details.

Can someone view a shared 1Password item without an account?
Yes. A recipient can open the link in a browser and view and copy the item’s shared details without signing up for 1Password. If you restrict the link to named email addresses, the recipient must verify the specified address first. Access to a link should not be confused with access to your 1Password account or vault.

What a share link does—and what it cannot undo
1Password says a share link provides access to an encrypted copy of the item, excluding password history. The sender’s device encrypts the copy and the recipient’s device decrypts it; the share secret is not sent to the server. 1Password says the encrypted copy is stored on a dedicated server in Frankfurt, Germany. - Limit the audience. Choose named email recipients when access should be restricted; anyone-with-the-link is less restrictive.
- Set an appropriate expiry. Use a lifespan suited to the task, and share the item only with someone you trust with its secret.
- Deleting a link does not erase what was already seen or copied. If you need to invalidate a password someone may have learned, change the password. Reset associated two-factor authentication as needed.
1Password Support describes a vault already shared with family or team members as the most secure way to share items with them. It also cautions that the sender still has to choose a trusted recipient and suitable settings: link controls can help make sharing more secure, but cannot prevent an insecure choice.

Sharing controls for 1Password Business
Business administrators can set organization-wide rules for item sharing. Depending on policy, they can allow sharing with anyone, require recipient email verification, or limit recipients to approved domains. Administrators can set a default and maximum link lifespan of 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, or 30 days, and can enable links to expire after a single view. These are Business controls, not settings guaranteed to be available to every 1Password account. See 1Password’s Business sharing settings.
