To uninstall an app from a Samsung tablet, touch and hold its icon on the Apps screen, tap Uninstall if it appears, and confirm. If you only want to clear an icon from the Home screen, choose Remove from Home instead; that leaves the app installed.
Uninstall an app from the Apps screen
- Open the Apps screen.
- Touch and hold the app you want to remove.
- Tap Uninstall, then confirm.
- Check the Apps screen to verify that the app is gone.
Samsung documents another route for Australian-variant Galaxy devices: open Settings > Apps, select the app, tap Uninstall, and confirm. The available choices can vary by model and region. Samsung Australia’s uninstall instructions note that an app without an Uninstall option may be a system or pre-installed app.
Choose the right action

Remove only a Home screen icon
Touch and hold the app shortcut on the Home screen and tap Remove from Home. Samsung’s Canada tablet guidance distinguishes this from deleting the app: it removes the shortcut, not the installed app. On One UI 7, Samsung’s Canada guidance uses Remove for a Home screen item. Hide an app that cannot be uninstalled
- Open the Apps screen, tap More, then tap Settings.
- Tap Hide apps on Home and Apps screens.
- Select the app and tap Done.
To make it visible again, return to that same menu, deselect it from the hidden-apps list, and tap Done. Menu wording can vary by tablet and software version. Samsung’s pre-installed app guide provides the hide-app path.

Disable and re-enable an eligible pre-installed app
If Disable is available, open Settings > Apps, select the app, tap Disable, and confirm. On some devices, you can also touch and hold the app icon and select Disable. To turn it back on, return to Settings > Apps, select the app, and tap Enable. Not every built-in app can be disabled.
Why Uninstall may not appear
Some apps come pre-installed and cannot be removed. Samsung lists Phone, Messages, Contacts, Gallery, and My Files as essential examples. As Samsung puts it, “Some pre-installed apps on your Samsung Galaxy device can be deleted, while essential apps such as Phone, Messages, Contacts, Gallery, and My Files cannot because they are required for basic device functions.” Samsung’s Ireland guide also explains that only some pre-installed apps can be disabled.

If an app offers neither Uninstall nor Disable, hiding it can remove it from view, but does not delete or turn off the app. The exact menus, names, and available actions vary by device model, software version, and app version; Samsung’s Ireland guide was last updated 26 May 2026. The One UI 7 Home screen label is version-specific, not a universal path for every Samsung tablet.
