On some Samsung 3-door French-door refrigerators, removing the freezer drawer means first taking out both baskets, releasing the rail hooks, and sliding the drawer off the rails. The steps are model-specific: some Samsung designs let you remove the baskets but not the sliding drawer itself. Check your model’s manual if the parts or hooks do not match.
First, identify what you’re removing
Samsung instructions distinguish the freezer baskets from the drawer and rail assembly. You can often remove the baskets for access or cleaning without removing the sliding drawer. The drawer-removal steps below apply to the 3-door French-door procedure in Samsung’s US guide, not every Samsung refrigerator.
Samsung notes that removal steps can vary by model. Its general removal guidance recommends checking the exact model’s user manual if your parts or movements differ. Samsung Australia also documents a French-door design in which the baskets can be removed but the sliding drawer cannot: Removing the Shelves and Bins of a French Door Fridge.
Remove the freezer drawer on the covered 3-door French-door design
- Remove the upper basket. Lift its front, then pull it out.
- Remove the lower basket. Pull it up off the rail assembly.
- Unlock the rail assembly. Press down on the hooks.
- Slide out the drawer. Hold the upper area of the freezer drawer and slide it off the rail assembly. Avoid scratching or denting the rails.
These steps follow Samsung’s model-scoped US instructions. Don’t pry or force a rail or hook that does not release as described; consult your refrigerator’s manual instead.

Reinstall the drawer and baskets
Reverse the removal steps, then check that the drawer opens and closes properly. Put each basket in its intended position: Samsung warns that incorrect placement can interfere with drawer movement and may contribute to frost buildup. For basket alignment, Samsung Canada advises reinstalling the lower basket before aligning the upper basket over the rail assembly; see its French-door shelves and drawers guidance. Samsung Australia describes aligning the upper-basket wheels with the lower-basket rails for the design covered by its page, so follow your model’s instructions rather than assuming baskets are interchangeable.
If you only need to remove the baskets
For the covered French-door guidance, remove the upper basket first and then lift out the lower basket. Reinstall the lower basket before positioning the upper basket over the rail assembly. Details can vary, so use the sequence and alignment instructions in your model’s manual if they differ. Samsung Canada’s overview also lets you search for available bins, shelves, and drawers using your refrigerator’s model code if a part is damaged or missing.
