The right settings depend on your platform, display, hardware, and how controller aim feels to you. Begin with a stable baseline, change one setting at a time, and verify the options in the build you are playing: the most directly relevant DMZ-inclusive guide dates to November 2022, and newer Warzone support pages do not confirm current DMZ menus.
Start with a baseline, not a copied preset
DMZ settings are personal rather than a universal performance formula. A recommendation published for one platform, display, or game build may not translate to yours. GameSpot’s November 2022 guide covers Modern Warfare II, Warzone 2.0, and DMZ, and explicitly describes its recommendations as subjective: GameSpot’s DMZ-inclusive settings guide.
Before adjusting anything, note your platform, display resolution and refresh rate, current frame-rate behavior, and controller layout. Then test one category at a time—visibility, performance, controller feel, or network—under similar conditions. A general Warzone settings guide published in 2026 also recommends evaluating FPS, visibility, and controls separately and rechecking after major patches, driver changes, or platform changes; it is process advice, not a DMZ-specific compatibility test: JEU.VIDEO’s platform-aware Warzone guide.
Improve visibility on your own display
Start by checking brightness in the environment where you play. The goal is to make dark areas and targets readable without washing out the rest of the image; a brightness number from someone else’s screen is not a reliable target. Activision’s older Modern Warfare controls article describes brightness, film grain, motion blur, and color filters, but it documents PS4-era Modern Warfare rather than confirming current DMZ menu names: Activision’s controls and settings article.

- Brightness: adjust it while looking at the game on your actual display, not from a screenshot or someone else’s preset.
- Film grain and motion blur: inspect whether either effect makes fine detail or movement harder for you to read. Disable or reduce an effect only if the image becomes clearer to you and the option exists in your build.
- Color filters: try an available colorblind filter if it improves distinction between important colors; it is an accessibility option, not a universal visibility upgrade.
Do not assume that changing a visual effect will raise frame rate. The available sources do not establish a DMZ-specific performance gain from any one visibility setting.
Separate frame-rate problems from online lag
Choppy or inconsistent rendering points to a local performance issue; delayed actions, disconnections, or trouble joining online matches may instead involve the network or game service. Treat these as separate problems before changing settings. Activision’s Warzone support article recommends checking server status and connection quality, and says: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” The article is dated November 14, 2022: Activision’s Warzone connection troubleshooting steps.

- Check Activision’s server status before diagnosing a connection problem.
- For online play, use wired Ethernet if practical, then run the platform’s connection test.
- If the frame rate itself is unstable, record the behavior and test local graphics or display options separately from network changes.
- Recheck after a major game update, driver update, or platform change; results from an older build may no longer apply.
Activision’s current Warzone support hub lists 2026 support and updates, but does not establish whether DMZ is currently playable or confirm its present menu options: Activision’s Warzone support hub. Confirm labels and availability in your own game build rather than treating older Warzone 2 or MWII values as current.
Tune controller aim by changing one variable at a time
Aim assist and response curves affect different parts of controller feel. Activision’s older controls guide describes aim-assist modes—Standard, Precision, and Focusing—and response curves—Standard, Linear, and Dynamic. Aim assist affects target slowdown behavior; the response curve changes how stick input maps to aim rate. Those descriptions explain the options, but do not prove that one choice is best for every player or that the labels remain unchanged in current DMZ builds.

Use a repeatable routine: keep sensitivity and other controls fixed, try one available aim-assist or response-curve option, and compare tracking and small corrections in the same kind of situation. Make small adjustments and keep the option that feels controllable and consistent. Avoid changing several aim settings at once, since that makes it difficult to identify what helped.
Make movement controls easier to reach
If crouching, sliding, or diving interrupts your aim because reaching the button requires lifting your right thumb, consider testing a different layout. GameSpot’s November 2022 DMZ-inclusive guide suggests Tactical layout for a standard controller because it moves crouch/slide/dive to a thumbstick. This is a starting option, not a guarantee of better movement or aim. The same guide recommends turning controller vibration off; test that preference separately so you can tell whether it improves your own control.

Keep your current layout available while testing. A familiar layout can be more reliable than a change made solely because it appears in a recommended preset, and the exact layout names or options may differ by build and platform.

Call of Duty’s DMZ is a game mode. A router’s “DMZ” setting is a separate network troubleshooting feature; it does not change in-game visibility, frame rate, or aim. Activision’s connection article treats router DMZ as a temporary, console-only test after UPnP and port forwarding, and instructs players to remove the console’s static IP from the router DMZ after testing. Do not use that router feature as a graphics or controller setting.
