It is not a GPU or a standalone computer chip: Cisco plans to integrate it into switches, including announced N9000 and Cisco 8000 systems. Cisco’s published specifications describe its capacity and features; its performance figures are simulations, and the available announcements do not confirm that G300 systems have begun shipping as of October 4, 2026.
What the Silicon One G300 does
The G300 is a switching processor: it directs network traffic between devices rather than performing the AI calculations done by GPUs or other compute processors. Cisco positions it for fixed-form-factor data-center switches serving AI networks, including spine and leaf roles and both scale-out and scale-up traffic.
That distinction matters in AI clusters. Compute accelerators exchange data with one another and with storage; the network must carry those flows while contending with bursts, congestion, and failed or degraded paths. Cisco describes its G300 design as a way to increase switching capacity and manage those traffic conditions. The processor is intended to be sold as part of networking systems, not as a chip for an individual consumer to install.
G300 specifications Cisco has announced
Cisco’s G300 data sheet specifies 102.4 Tbps of full-duplex switching capacity and a 64×1600-GE switching configuration. Cisco’s engineering blog adds support for 1.6T Ethernet ports using integrated 200-Gbps SerDes and says the design can scale to as many as 512 ports. These are Cisco product specifications, not independently measured throughput results.

| Specification or claim | What Cisco says | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Switching capacity | 102.4 Tbps, full duplex; Cisco data sheet, 2026 | The stated switching capacity of the processor; not a guarantee that a particular deployed network will deliver that application throughput. |
| Switch configuration | 64×1600 GE; Cisco data sheet, 2026 | A stated design configuration, not a specification for every announced switch model. |
| Ethernet ports and SerDes | 1.6T Ethernet ports with integrated 200-Gbps SerDes; Cisco engineering blog, 2026 | Vendor description of the chip’s port technology. |
| Port scaling | Up to 512 ports; Cisco engineering blog, 2026 | A stated scaling capability; the blog does not establish that every system configuration exposes this port count. |
| Packet buffer | 252 MB; Cisco engineering blog, 2026 | The reported size of the shared on-chip packet buffer. |
How Cisco says G300 handles AI network traffic
Shared packet buffer for bursts
Cisco says the G300 has a fully shared 252 MB on-die packet buffer. In a shared design, any port can use available buffer capacity rather than being limited to a permanently assigned portion. Cisco’s stated rationale is that this can help absorb bursts when traffic arrives unevenly across ports.
Path-based load balancing
Cisco describes load balancing that responds to congestion or link faults by directing traffic along alternate paths. The aim is to avoid leaving flows on a path that has become less suitable. The announcement describes the intended behavior; it does not provide independent field results showing how a particular topology performs.

Telemetry and programmability
Cisco also highlights programmable telemetry for diagnosing flows and network behavior, along with programmability in the chip. Its data sheet identifies RDMA and RoCE v2 use cases. These capabilities are relevant to AI clusters, where operators need to diagnose traffic problems across many interconnected systems, but the exact tools and configuration depend on the switch and software stack.
What Cisco’s performance figures do—and do not—show
Cisco reports a simulated 33% improvement in network throughput in its engineering blog, attributing the result to the larger packet buffer. The February 2026 newsroom announcement describes a 33% increase in network utilization. These are vendor simulation claims, not independent benchmark results.

Cisco also reports a simulated 28% reduction in job-completion time. The engineering blog compares against advanced packet-spray implementations; the newsroom release describes a comparison with simulated non-optimized path selection. Because Cisco describes the comparison differently in the two materials, the figure should be read with that distinction in mind rather than as a result against one universally defined baseline.
Cisco’s newsroom announcement separately says that 100%-liquid-cooled systems combined with new optics could deliver nearly 70% better energy efficiency. That is a claim about the announced system-and-optics configuration, not a measurement of the G300 silicon alone. The cited Cisco materials do not supply independent G300 field measurements or a basis for treating these figures as guaranteed results in a buyer’s deployment.

Where G300 fits in Cisco’s Silicon One portfolio
Cisco identifies its G-Series as its AI scale-switch family. For a basic capacity comparison, Cisco’s portfolio page lists the G200 at 51.2 Tbps, while the G300 data sheet specifies 102.4 Tbps full duplex. The stated G300 figure is twice the G200 figure, but capacity alone does not establish which chip or system is the better choice: network role, switch configuration, optics, software, cooling, and deployment topology also matter.
Cisco announced G300-powered N9000 and Cisco 8000 systems, as well as new optics. The chip’s role is within data-center switching; it should not be confused with equipment selected primarily for connecting separate data centers or with a general-purpose router. Cisco has not provided enough configuration detail in the cited announcements for a complete model-by-model buying comparison.

When will G300 switches be available?
Cisco’s February 10, 2026 newsroom announcement said the G300, its systems, and optics would ship in 2026. Cisco SVP and General Manager Nick Kucharewski’s engineering blog set a more specific target: first system availability in the second half of 2026. Cisco’s investor presentation also characterized G300 as shipping in calendar 2026. These are company targets, not confirmation that products have shipped.
As of October 4, 2026, the cited material does not establish whether shipments have started or which configurations are orderable in a particular market. Cisco named the Nexus N9364F-SG3 in a customer quotation about a G300 switch, but that mention does not establish the model’s current orderability. Buyers should confirm availability, configuration, and delivery timing with Cisco or a market-specific seller.
What buyers should verify before evaluating a G300 system
The chip’s headline capacity is only one input to a network purchase. Since Cisco has announced systems rather than a consumer chip sale, evaluation should focus on the actual switch configuration and deployment:
Quick Recap
- System model and port layout: Confirm the switch model, supported port speeds and counts, and which configurations are available for the intended topology.
- Software and operations: Establish which network operating system, telemetry, and management features are included and how they fit existing operations.
- Optics and connectivity: Verify supported optics and their compatibility with the selected system and the links on both ends.
- Cooling and power: Compare the actual air- or liquid-cooled system configuration and its documented power requirements; do not apply Cisco’s system-level efficiency claim to the chip by itself.
- Evidence and economics: Request deployment-relevant test results, power figures, pricing, and delivery commitments. Cisco’s published simulations do not substitute for independently verified results in the buyer’s workload and topology.
