AUTOSAR Classic specifies XCP support over FlexRay, but “AUTOSAR-compatible” does not by itself guarantee an ECU integration will work. You must match the AUTOSAR release and requirement status, FlexRay cluster and LPDU configuration, controller buffers, PDU length, A2L description, and calibration master. The technical requirements below are based on AUTOSAR Classic R24-11; AUTOSAR’s platform page lists R25-11 as the current Classic release, so confirm the XCP specification and APIs that apply to your project before implementation.
Which software module supports XCP on a FlexRay ECU?
The ECU needs an XCP slave in its AUTOSAR Classic basic-software and communication-stack environment. AUTOSAR’s R24-11 XCP specification says the XCP module shall support FlexRay and describes how XCP data is exchanged through AUTOSAR communication services. This is not simply an application-level feature: the ECU’s basic software, communication configuration, network design, and calibration description must work together.
A named implementation option is Vector MICROSAR Classic XCP. ASAM’s product directory describes MICROSAR Classic as AUTOSAR Classic basic software with an XCP slave, and lists FlexRay among the supported topologies. It identifies DaVinci Configurator Classic for configuration and generation. These descriptions establish a product option, not automatic compatibility with every AUTOSAR release, microcontroller, compiler, or ECU project. Ask the vendor for evidence specific to your target configuration.
What does AUTOSAR R24-11 require for FlexRay?
The R24-11 XCP specification makes FlexRay support a module requirement, but leaves important implementation and system-design choices to configuration. Its FlexRay provisions address communication through AUTOSAR services, event-driven LPDUs, dedicated FlexRay controller buffers, configured PDU length and buffer use, LPDU routing, and A2L information for XCP-dedicated buffers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- LPDU routing and scheduling: the system design must define how XCP traffic uses FlexRay LPDUs. Align the routing with the cluster configuration and bus schedule.
- Controller buffers: the specification calls for XCP-exclusive controller buffers and configuration of their use. Check available controller resources and how they are allocated.
- PDU length: configure the FlexRay PDU length for the target ECU and network setup rather than assuming a product default fits.
- Multiple slaves and frame layout: account for multiple XCP slaves on one FlexRay bus. Header choices can vary with sequencing, alignment, and net-throughput needs; the control field may have fill bytes; and the module must be able to pack multiple XCP messages into a FlexRay frame.
- A2L buffer information: describe the extent to which XCP-dedicated buffers can be configured so the XCP master can obtain the relevant buffer information from the A2L file.
One release-specific detail deserves care: R24-11 marks the earlier FlexRay Interface API requirement obsolete and gives a replacement PduR API requirement with status DRAFT. Do not treat that draft replacement as a settled requirement. Check the exact specification version, requirement status, and APIs adopted by the project.
What is the difference between the ECU module and calibration tooling?
An ECU-side XCP slave implements the protocol endpoint. A calibration tool is the master-side software that connects to that endpoint, uses the ECU’s descriptions, and performs measurement or calibration. The tool cannot substitute for an XCP slave in the ECU.

| Product or source | Role | FlexRay-related evidence | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vector MICROSAR Classic XCP | ECU-side AUTOSAR Classic basic software with an XCP slave | ASAM’s product directory lists FlexRay among the supported topologies and names DaVinci Configurator Classic for configuration and generation. | Release and requirement status, MCU and compiler support, project-specific configuration, and compatibility with the intended master and A2L. |
| ETAS INCA-FLEXRAY | Measurement and calibration tooling; not the ECU-side slave module | ETAS says the add-on enables calibration of FlexRay ECUs via XCP and supports FlexRay interface hardware and FIBEX-compliant configuration descriptions. | Exact INCA version, licensed features, interface hardware, descriptions, and ECU support. ETAS INCA V7.6 documentation also describes access to ECU-supported memory options and memory-page management through XCP on FlexRay. |
ASAM’s XCP material notes that XCP on FlexRay requires information about the FlexRay cluster to which the ECU belongs. That makes the network description and master setup part of the end-to-end compatibility check, not just the ECU software selection.
How to assess compatibility before integrating
- Pin the AUTOSAR release. The requirements described here are from Classic R24-11, while AUTOSAR’s platform page lists R25-11 as the current Classic release. Obtain the XCP specification for the release used by your ECU and check the status of relevant requirements and APIs.
- Confirm the target cluster and schedule. Coordinate cluster information, frame and LPDU assignment, bus schedule, and available communication-controller resources with the network design.
- Budget controller buffers and PDU length. Confirm the XCP buffer allocation and configured PDU length against the ECU’s controller resources and traffic design. Include any other XCP slaves using the same FlexRay bus.
- Align the ECU configuration, network description, and A2L. Ensure LPDU routing and buffer configuration agree with the system description, and that the A2L communicates the XCP-dedicated buffer information required by the master.
- Validate the master and physical interface. Confirm that the calibration master supports XCP on the target FlexRay cluster and has the required interface hardware and configuration descriptions. A vendor’s support for FlexRay in general does not establish support for your particular ECU setup.
- Request version-specific implementation evidence. Compare candidate modules on AUTOSAR release and requirement status, supported MCU and compiler, transport and buffer handling, A2L and master compatibility, configuration workflow, vendor support, and licensing.
What the available product information does—and does not—establish
ASAM’s directory and Vector’s product information identify MICROSAR Classic XCP as a FlexRay-capable implementation option. ETAS documents INCA-FLEXRAY as relevant calibration tooling. These are product descriptions, not independent interoperability test results, and they do not show that every combination of ECU, software release, interface, and calibration master will work without project-specific configuration.
