To turn finger touch input off or back on in Windows 11, use Device Manager: expand Human Interface Devices, then disable or enable the device named HID-compliant touch screen. If multiple entries with that name appear, repeat the action for each.
Turn touchscreen input off or on in Device Manager

Right-click Start and select Device Manager.

Expand Human Interface Devices.

Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable device to stop touchscreen input, or Enable device to restore it. If Windows asks you to confirm, approve the change.

If the list contains more than one HID-compliant touch screen entry, repeat the action for each one. Do not disable other entries under Human Interface Devices; select only the named touchscreen device.

Touchscreen control, touch gestures, and tablet mode are different

If the touchscreen entry is missing or touch does not work
Microsoft’s general instructions do not explain how to identify which physical display corresponds to each listed touchscreen entry on every PC. If you see multiple entries, repeat the enable or disable action for each rather than guessing which panel an entry controls.
If HID-compliant touch screen is missing, or enabling it does not restore touch, follow troubleshooting guidance for your specific computer or contact its manufacturer. For a Surface device, Microsoft’s Surface touchscreen troubleshooting guide covers Surface-specific diagnostics, driver steps, and testing touch in UEFI to help distinguish a possible hardware issue from a Windows or driver issue. Some Surface troubleshooting steps may require a connected keyboard or mouse; they are not universal instructions for every Windows PC.

On Surface devices specifically, disabling touch also disables touch accessories, including Surface Pen, Surface Dial, and Windows Touch Keyboard.
