The XGIMI HORIZON Pro (model XK03H) is a convenient 4K projector for a dark or controllable room, especially if you value quick setup, built-in Android TV and usable onboard speakers. Its limits matter: measured brightness varies by picture mode, blacks are not TV-deep, and its fixed lens needs careful placement. It is a better fit for casual viewing and gaming than for bright-room use or competitive play.

What the XGIMI HORIZON Pro offers

XGIMI’s current US product page lists the HORIZON Pro XK03H as a DLP projector with a 0.47-inch DMD, a stated 3840 × 2160 resolution, HDR10 and HLG support, and 1500 ISO lumens. The manufacturer describes the image as “true 4K”; that is XGIMI’s product-page wording, while the resolution figure is its stated specification. Manufacturer figures are based on internal tests and may vary with configuration, software, applications and environment. XGIMI’s HORIZON Pro specifications

Feature HORIZON Pro XK03H specification
Display DLP, 0.47-inch DMD
Resolution and HDR 3840 × 2160; HDR10 and HLG
Brightness 1500 ISO lumens, per XGIMI
Image size and throw ratio 40–200 inches; 1.2:1
Setup features Autofocus, auto keystone correction, intelligent screen alignment and obstacle avoidance
Smart features Android TV, Chromecast built-in/Airscreen mirroring
Memory and storage 2 GB RAM; 32 GB storage
Audio Two 8 W Harman/Kardon speakers
Connections HDMI (one input and one eARC-supported HDMI), two USB ports, LAN, optical audio and 3.5 mm headphone output

Those features make it a self-contained setup for streaming and ordinary viewing. If you already use an external streamer or sound system, the built-in Android TV and speakers may be less important than placement, brightness and black level.

Is the HORIZON Pro bright enough for a living room?

It can work in a living room when you can reduce ambient light, but its brightness should not be treated as a guarantee of a punchy picture in a sunlit space. XGIMI specifies 1500 ISO lumens; ProjectorCentral’s older review measured ANSI lumens using its own test setup, so those figures are not directly interchangeable.

In ProjectorCentral’s review, Performance mode measured 1521 ANSI lumens but produced a noticeable green tint. Standard mode measured about 1133 ANSI lumens; Bright measured 1199 ANSI lumens, while Eye Protection and Custom were also approximately 1133 ANSI lumens. These are results from the reviewer’s sample and modes, not a promise for every unit. The practical trade-off is that the mode with the highest measured output may not be the most natural-looking choice. ProjectorCentral’s HORIZON Pro review and measurements

Dark-room viewing is the safer expectation. In a September 2022 review hosted by XGIMI, How-To Geek reviewer Sascha Brodsky wrote, “However, the blacks don’t look as dark as many high-end TV sets.” That is a reviewer impression rather than a measured contrast result, but it flags a real viewing trade-off: dark scenes lack the deep black appearance of a good television. What the measurements mean in practice

  • For films and dark scenes, plan to control room light and avoid expecting TV-like black levels.
  • For a living room that stays bright, ambient light will compete with the projected image; the listed lumen rating alone cannot establish how well it will hold up in your room.
  • Judge picture modes by color and appearance as well as output: ProjectorCentral’s highest measured mode had a green tint.

How far away does the HORIZON Pro need to be for a 100-inch screen?

ProjectorCentral gives about 8 feet 9 inches from projector to screen for a 100-inch diagonal image, based on the HORIZON Pro’s fixed 1.2:1 throw ratio. Measure the actual lens-to-screen distance and check the intended screen size before buying; a fixed lens does not provide the placement flexibility of a zoom lens. XGIMI’s current US page lists a 40–200-inch image range. Some older material mentions sizes up to 300 inches, but that is not the current US product-page specification. ProjectorCentral also notes that digital zoom can reduce light output, so using it to compensate for an unsuitable physical placement can cost brightness. XGIMI’s current US specifications

Is setup really easy?

Autofocus, keystone correction, screen alignment and obstacle avoidance reduce the amount of manual adjustment needed. ProjectorCentral found, however, that automatic correction can activate after even a small bump, and that enabling automated features can add startup time. This is a useful convenience for flexible placement, not a substitute for positioning the projector carefully and keeping it stable.

ProjectorCentral measured 86.6% brightness uniformity on its sample. It also recorded 34 dB of fan noise one foot behind the exhaust in a room with a 30 dB noise floor. Those figures describe that review sample and test setup; perceived fan noise will depend on seating distance and room conditions.

How good are the speakers and built-in streaming?

The projector includes Android TV and two 8 W Harman/Kardon speakers, plus Chromecast built-in/Airscreen mirroring. XGIMI lists two HDMI connections, including one eARC-supported HDMI, along with optical audio and a headphone output, so external audio is an option if the built-in speakers are not sufficient for your room.

The September 2022 How-To Geek review praised the ease of setup and the speakers for near-field listening. Treat that as a dated hands-on impression rather than evidence about current app compatibility or every listening environment; the available sources do not establish present-day software support details.

Is the HORIZON Pro good for gaming?

It is more plausible for casual or solo gaming than competitive play. In ProjectorCentral’s test, Game mode measured 34.6 ms input lag at 1080p/60. Other image modes measured 118.1 ms at the same resolution and refresh rate. These are measurements from the reviewer’s sample and setup, not a guarantee across games, sources or firmware. For gaming, use Game mode and keep in mind that the cited lag results are specifically for 1080p at 60 Hz.

Who should buy the XGIMI HORIZON Pro?

It makes sense if you

  • Want a large-screen 4K projector with built-in streaming and speakers in one unit.
  • Can place it at the required throw distance and view in a room where light can be controlled.
  • Value autofocus and automatic image adjustments, and can keep the projector stable once set up.
  • Mostly watch films, shows or play games casually rather than relying on highly responsive competitive gaming.

Consider another approach if you

  • Need a consistently bright image in a room with substantial daylight or fixed ambient lighting.
  • Expect deep, TV-like blacks in dark scenes.
  • Cannot accommodate the fixed lens’s placement requirements for your chosen image size.
  • Need low input lag outside the specific Game-mode 1080p/60 test conditions described above.

Before choosing this projector over another, compare measured brightness only when the measurement standard and image mode match, then check dark-room black levels, throw fit, gaming latency and the value of its built-in streaming and sound for your setup.
