For Apple Watch, start with an Activity or Workout complication and use Smart Stack for less frequently checked summaries. Samsung and Garmin offer their own watch-specific widget or glance systems, but features differ by model and software. “Complication,” “widget,” and “tile” are not interchangeable names across platforms.
Choose views around the information you actually use
There is no evidence-backed universal winner: the official platform materials describe different features, not a controlled comparison of ease of use or health outcomes. Choose based on what appears quickly, whether it can take you to a useful action, how much you can customize, and whether your exact watch supports it.
- For daily movement: Put your activity progress where you see it without searching—on the watch face if your platform and face support it.
- For starting exercise: Prefer a view that opens the Workout or activity app, rather than one that only displays a number.
- For broader check-ins: Keep secondary summaries such as sleep or heart rate in a stack or widget view if you do not need them on the face all day.
- For habit tracking: A measure you can update, such as water intake on a supported Samsung Health widget, may be more useful than another passive statistic.
Before setting up a view, check its compatibility with your watch model, operating-system version, watch face or widget family, and region. The available content is not identical across devices.
Apple Watch: use complications for the face and Smart Stack for summaries
A complication is information placed directly on a watch face. Apple lists options including Activity, Heart Rate, Sleep, and Workout, but available choices depend on the face; not every face supports every complication. See Apple’s watch-face and complication reference for supported faces and features.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Smart Stack is a separate, scrollable display of widgets. Apple says it can surface widgets based on contextual relevance, and users can pin a favorite. Tapping a widget or complication can open its associated app or scene. Apple explains these interactions in its WidgetKit documentation.
A practical starting arrangement
- Put Activity on the face if you want quick visibility into daily movement progress.
- Use Workout when your main need is a quick route into starting an exercise session.
- Keep less frequently checked views, such as a sleep summary, in Smart Stack rather than crowding the face.
This is a goal-led setup suggestion, not a universal ranking; the particular face and watchOS version determine what you can place. Apple describes the Activity app as a way to track movement and fitness goals, and says watchOS 11 made Activity rings more customizable. Ring goals are useful tracking prompts, not a complete measure of health or fitness. See Apple’s guide to tracking daily activity and its watchOS 11 overview.

Samsung Galaxy Watch: check which Health widgets or Tiles your model supports
Samsung’s developer documentation describes watch widgets and illustrates a Samsung Health view where a user can enter cups of water and see progress. That example shows why an interactive habit view can be useful, but it is platform- and implementation-specific—not a definitive feature list for every current Galaxy Watch. Samsung’s page also discusses a legacy implementation, so confirm availability for your watch and One UI Watch version in the device’s current settings and documentation. See Samsung Developer’s widget documentation.
Some Samsung watch experiences are referred to as Tiles, but do not assume a Tile has the same capabilities or setup path as a widget documented for another generation. If your goal is activity tracking, look for the view that both surfaces the metric you want and, where relevant, provides a direct route to the activity app. A secondary review discusses customizable Tiles on a specific Samsung model; its observations should not be generalized to all generations: TechRadar’s Galaxy Watch 9 review.

Garmin: identify the model before choosing a widget
Garmin’s Forerunner 45/45 Plus manual describes adding widgets to a widget loop. For those models, the documented information includes health statistics and activity history, with metrics such as timed activities, intensity minutes, steps, and calories. These details apply to the cited Forerunner models, not to every Garmin watch. See the Forerunner 45/45 Plus manual’s Widgets section.
Check the manual or on-watch widget list for your exact Garmin family before choosing a setup: widget availability and metrics vary across product lines and software. If you routinely check recent sessions, activity history may be more useful than a second daily total; if you want a quick daily check, prioritize the model’s relevant health statistic.

Compare platforms by glance, action, and compatibility
| Platform and terminology | Where the information appears | Examples established by documentation | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch: complications and Smart Stack widgets | Complications appear on supported watch faces; widgets appear in the scrollable, contextual Smart Stack. | Activity, Heart Rate, Sleep, and Workout complications are among Apple’s listed options; widgets can open a corresponding app or scene. | Watch face, watchOS version, and watch model. A face may not offer every complication. |
| Samsung: widgets and model-specific Tiles | Depends on the watch generation and software; Samsung’s developer documentation describes widgets. | Samsung’s example widget supports water-intake entry and progress viewing. | Exact Galaxy Watch generation and One UI Watch version; the cited widget documentation includes a legacy implementation. |
| Garmin: widget loop | Widgets are added to a scrollable loop on the Forerunner models covered by the manual. | The Forerunner 45/45 Plus manual lists health statistics and activity history, including timed activities, intensity minutes, steps, and calories. | Exact Garmin model family and software; the cited metrics are specific to Forerunner 45/45 Plus documentation. |
The table describes documented examples, not a cross-brand usability test. The most useful option is the one your watch supports and that fits your routine.
Use health metrics as tracking information, not a diagnosis
Do not assume every watch measures every health metric, or that a feature is available in every region. Apple’s watchOS 11 announcement lists sleep-related insights and describes feature limits; for example, blood oxygen availability is restricted by device and region. Check Apple’s feature notes and the support information for your exact model before relying on a metric. A watch’s health view is for tracking, not diagnosing a condition.
