Smartwatch widgets are compact views of app information or quick actions you can access from your watch. The feature has different names and controls across platforms: Apple Watch groups widgets in the Smart Stack, while Wear OS and Samsung guides refer to tiles or widgets. The steps below explain how to find and manage them on each system; exact menus can vary by watch model and software.
What smartwatch widgets do
A widget puts useful information or an available action within quick reach without requiring you to start by opening the full app. Tap a widget to open its associated app; some widgets also offer buttons that perform an action directly. Which widgets are available depends on the watch, its software, and the apps it supports.
Widgets can show items such as an upcoming event, fitness information, heart rate on a watch with a heart-rate monitor, or a timer. Apple’s Smart Stack can also surface contextual suggestions and Live Activities, with examples including workouts, timers, and music.
How to use widgets on Apple Watch
Open the Smart Stack
From the watch face, turn the Digital Crown upward or swipe up from the bottom of the screen. On supported setups, you can also use the double-tap gesture. Scroll through the stack and tap a widget to open its app, or use a supported button to take an action.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add, remove, pin, or rearrange widgets
- Open the Smart Stack from the watch face.
- Scroll to the bottom of the stack and tap Edit.
- Add or remove widgets, pin items to keep them in fixed positions, and rearrange pinned items. Some widgets also offer customization options.
- When finished, exit the editing view to return to the stack.
Apple says the Smart Stack can suggest information or actions based on context such as time of day, location, or recent activity. These suggestions are assistance rather than guaranteed predictions; Apple notes that the watch may need time to learn a routine, including for workout suggestions. See the Apple Watch user guide for the Smart Stack.
How to add tiles or widgets on Wear OS
Google’s Wear OS guide describes swiping from right to left to move through tiles or widgets that show information or tasks. Examples include news, the next event, fitness information, heart rate on watches with a heart-rate monitor, and a timer.

- To reorder or remove items, use the controls on the watch or manage them through the Wear OS app or the watch maker’s companion app, where available.

How to add widgets or tiles on Samsung watches
- From the watch Home screen, swipe left through the widgets or tiles to the end.
- Choose the add option and select the item to include.

Samsung also documents managing supported watches through the Galaxy Wearable app. The process varies by model: Samsung’s guide says Galaxy Fit and Fit2 widget management requires the app and notes other legacy-model differences. Confirm the steps for your exact watch in Samsung’s watch widget and tile support guide.

Which instructions should you follow?
Start with your watch’s platform and model rather than assuming that instructions for another brand will apply. Apple calls the collection the Smart Stack; Wear OS and Samsung documentation uses tiles or widgets, and the way you open or edit them can differ.
| Platform | Feature name in the cited guide | Where you start | Where you can manage items |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Smart Stack and widgets | From the watch face, turn the Digital Crown upward or swipe up from the bottom; double-tap is available where supported. | In the Smart Stack, use Edit at the bottom to add, remove, pin, rearrange, or customize supported widgets. |
| Wear OS | Tiles or widgets | Swipe through the sequence to its end and choose Add tile or Add widget. | On the watch or, depending on the device, through the Wear OS or companion app. |
| Samsung watches | Widgets or tiles | Swipe left from the Home screen to the end and choose the add option. | On the watch or through Galaxy Wearable on supported models; some model steps differ. |
If a control is missing, check the watch’s model-specific instructions and whether its software or companion app needs an update. The cited platform guides explain setup, but they do not establish a universal comparison of widget quality, speed, or battery life.
