Apple’s documented switches cover summaries, notification handling, Mail replies, voicemail suggestions, call cards and Journal prompts. For Writing Tools, image creation and third-party Intelligence Extensions, Screen Time provides group-level restrictions instead.
Choose the right level of control
Apple documents three levels of control: a switch for a specific behavior, a Screen Time restriction for a feature group, or the master Apple Intelligence switch. A narrow switch is the best fit if you want to stop one behavior while retaining unrelated features. Apple does not document an individual off switch for every Apple Intelligence capability.

Turn off an individual Apple Intelligence behavior
Open the indicated Settings path and turn off the named control. Apple’s current iOS 27 guide lists these options; menu names can change with iOS updates. Apple’s iPhone guide to turning off and restricting Apple Intelligence has the current instructions.

Restrict Writing Tools, image creation, or Intelligence Extensions
Screen Time lets you block access to these categories rather than toggle one specific tool within them. Apple documents the restrictions in its Screen Time guide for iPhone; the main iOS 27 guide also points users to Screen Time restrictions. If the labels on your device differ, check for an iOS update and follow the wording shown on your iPhone.

- Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions, if it is not already enabled.
- Tap Intelligence & Siri, then select the category you want to restrict.
- Writing Tools: choose Writing Tools and set it to Don’t Allow.
- Image Playground, Genmoji, and Image Wand: choose Image Creation and set it to Don’t Allow.
- Third-party services such as ChatGPT: choose Intelligence Extensions and set it to Don’t Allow. This restricts the extension category; it is not a switch for all Apple Intelligence features.
Turn off Apple Intelligence entirely
For the broadest option, open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn off Apple Intelligence. Apple says the on-device models are removed when this switch is turned off. Use this only if you want Apple Intelligence unavailable as a whole, rather than just disabling selected behaviors. See Apple’s guide to getting started with Apple Intelligence on iPhone.

Apple’s current guide describes Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 or later for supported iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 models or later. Support, language, region, and feature availability vary, so a control may not appear on every iPhone. Check Apple’s compatibility and availability information as well as your iOS version. Some restrictions may have different menu wording across iOS releases.

Apple lists additional Intelligence experiences across apps and features, so the individual controls above should not be treated as a complete catalog. For feature-specific instructions, Apple also explains Messages summaries, notification summaries and priority notifications, and Writing Tools.
