Yes. The disc-equipped Xbox Series X plays most Xbox One games and selected Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games. Older-generation support is title-specific, so owning a disc does not guarantee it will work. For a supported disc game, the console downloads the game to its hard drive, and the disc must stay inserted while you play. Xbox’s backward-compatibility information notes that specific features vary by game and a download is required.
Which Xbox discs work on Series X?

Compatibility applies to particular games, not every disc from a generation. If you have a specific Xbox 360 or Original Xbox disc, look up its title in the current official catalog before relying on it.
How to play a compatible disc game
- Insert the disc into the disc-equipped Xbox Series X.
- Allow the console to download the game to its hard drive. The original disc is not simply played directly as-is.
- Keep the disc in the drive when you launch and play the installed game.
Xbox’s instructions for supported disc-based games are: “insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive.” The disc remains necessary to play.

What to expect from Original Xbox games
Supported Original Xbox titles are the original games, not remasters. Xbox says original Xbox Live online multiplayer and in-game marketplaces are unavailable, the games do not provide Xbox achievements, and old saves do not transfer to Series X|S. Offline multiplayer remains supported when the original game included it.

Does this apply to Xbox Series S?
No. Xbox Series S is digital-only and does not play physical discs. The disc instructions above apply to the disc-equipped Series X, not Series S.
