For Vivado 2026.1 and newer, the free option is called BASIC and requires a valid license file renewed annually. The older “WebPACK” wording in this headline reflects an earlier product naming context, not the current license names.
What “WebPACK” means today
AMD’s current product is called AMD Vivado Design Suite. AMD describes it as design software for its adaptive SoCs and FPGAs, and its current overview lists Vivado 2026.1 as available. Current licensing materials use five tiers—BASIC, CORE, PRO, ENTERPRISE, and GOLD—rather than WebPACK.
The original announcement date and circumstances for the historical WebPACK headline are not established by AMD’s current materials. It is therefore best read as an older naming reference, not an announcement of a newly released edition.
Is Vivado still free?
Yes. AMD says the BASIC tier remains free, with annual renewal. For Vivado 2026.1 and newer, however, free does not mean license-free: AMD requires a valid annual license file, and it must be renewed after 12 months to continue using the software. The 2026.1 release guide also says a valid license file must be accessible before Vivado can launch.

Which Vivado license supports your FPGA?
The tier affects both supported devices and available features. Do not choose solely by price or by an old WebPACK device list: compare your exact FPGA part number and required workflow with AMD’s current device and feature tables. Availability can vary by tier and release.
- Check the exact device: Match the full FPGA part number, not just the family name, to AMD’s supported-device information.
- Check the workflow: Confirm that your tier covers the features you need, such as simulation and debug.
- Check license rights: BASIC, CORE, and PRO are annual options; ENTERPRISE and GOLD are perpetual options. AMD’s purchase page gives the displayed node-locked and floating prices.
- Check release coverage: Confirm the selected tier and license cover the Vivado version you plan to use.
AMD’s licensing page includes the current tier information and device/feature comparisons: Vivado licensing options. Use those tables for the definitive answer for a particular device and release.

Using Vivado with a development board
A compatible FPGA development board can provide hardware for implementing and testing a design, but board compatibility is not guaranteed by the board name alone. Check the board’s FPGA part number against the supported-device table, then verify that your Vivado release and license tier cover that device and your intended features. AMD’s current licensing page is the relevant starting point; no specific board model is established here as compatible.
