Hot-water washing is most worth paying extra for if your robot mops hard floors often and its pads regularly pick up sticky, greasy, or muddy messes. It automates a step in pad care, but the temperature alone is not proven to deliver cleaner floors or sanitize your home. If you mostly vacuum or mop occasionally, a simpler dock may be better value. Compare the whole dock and robot—not just the advertised water temperature.
What hot-water washing does—and does not do
Hot-water washing heats water for the dock’s mop-pad wash cycle. It does not mean the robot necessarily mops your floors with hot water. In Tapo’s described setup, the dock uses fresh water and a scrub mechanism to wash the pads, collects dirty water separately, and then dries the pads with heated air. The settings can include wash temperature, frequency, and mode (Tapo support instructions).
A standard-temperature wash may still include dock scrubbing and pad drying. The phrase “standard dock” is ambiguous: it might mean a basic charging base, a self-empty-only dock, or a mop-washing dock without a heater. Establish which type you are comparing before weighing cost. Dreame, for example, distinguishes a self-empty base from a fuller station that washes and dries pads and refills water (Dreame accessories and station information).
Who is most likely to benefit?
Frequent mopping with sticky or greasy messes
If the robot regularly cleans kitchen grime, muddy tracks, or similar residue, automated pad washing is useful, and hot water may help loosen stubborn residue. That is a plausible convenience benefit, not independent proof of better floor-cleaning results. A maker’s product claim should not be treated as a controlled comparison.
Frequent mopping with a preference for less hands-on upkeep
Look beyond temperature. A dock that washes and dries pads, collects wastewater, refills the robot, dispenses detergent, or cleans its own wash tray may reduce more routine work than a heater alone. Which functions are included varies by model (Tapo support instructions; Roborock Qrevo Edge series).

- Combat Messes with Smart Dirt Detection- The intelligent RGB camera, 5-channel color sensing, and innovative dirt detection system are combined to conquer tough messes on hard floors. The robotic vacuum will automatically rewash and mop when it detects that it has not been mopped.
Mostly vacuuming or occasional mopping
If the mop pads are rarely used, paying for a more elaborate wash station may not make sense. Dreame’s buyer guidance distinguishes self-empty-only docks for homes that rarely mop from wash-and-dry stations for homes with hard floors that mop often (Dreame accessories and station information).
Pet households
Base the decision on how often you mop, whether the dock dries pads, and how the full robot handles hair and dust. Hot water by itself is not established as a solution for pet hair or odors; those depend on the robot’s design and ongoing upkeep.

Compare the complete ownership package
When comparing two robots, use these factors rather than treating a temperature figure as the whole upgrade:
- Price difference: Compare robots with otherwise similar capabilities. The available product information does not establish a current, controlled price premium for hot-water washing alone.
- Your cleaning routine: Frequent hard-floor mopping and recurring sticky or oily grime make pad washing more relevant than occasional mop use.
- Dock functions: Check whether the station washes and dries pads, self-cleans its tray, collects dirty water, refills the robot, and dispenses detergent.
- Temperature claim: Note the exact model, manufacturer-stated temperature, and any test or environmental caveat. The stated maximum is not necessarily the temperature measured at the pad.
- Robot performance: Assess navigation, mop design, dirt detection, carpet handling, and vacuum performance separately from the dock’s water temperature.
- Remaining maintenance: Automated docks can still require clean-water or detergent refills, dirty-water disposal, dust-bag replacement, and tray cleaning. The models and feature descriptions differ, so there is no universal maintenance interval established here.
What manufacturers specify about temperature
| Model or source | Published temperature and feature | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Tapo RV50 Pro Omni | 140°F/60°C hot-water pad washing; 122°F/50°C warm-air drying | Manufacturer specifications; the page does not state a publication year. The washing figure is not independent evidence of cleaning or sanitation outcomes. (Tapo RV50 Pro Omni) |
| Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X (US page) | 167°F/75°C mop washing | Manufacturer specification; the page says actual temperature varies with environmental factors. No publication year is stated. (Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X) |
| Roborock Qrevo Edge series | 75°C mop washing and dock self-cleaning; 45°C warm-air drying | Manufacturer specification; the page also publishes a 99.99% bacteria-removal figure associated with its hygiene claims. That figure is Roborock’s claim, not independent corroboration or evidence about other docks, floors, or household disinfection. No publication year is stated. (Roborock Qrevo Edge series) |
| Roborock Saros Z70 | Hot-water mop washing and dock self-cleaning at up to 80°C; 55°C warm-air drying | Manufacturer specification; no publication year is stated. (Roborock Saros Z70) |
Advertised maximums are not a reliable way to rank docks on their own. The measured water temperature may differ from a maker’s maximum claim, which may apply to a particular test condition or wash phase. Vacuum Wars’ evaluation, last updated September 16, 2026, reported that the Saros Z70 recorded the highest measured water temperature in that evaluation, despite not having the highest official temperature claim. That result applies to the evaluation, not every dock or a permanent model ranking. (Vacuum Wars hot-water dock evaluation)

- CLEAN FLOORS EVERY DAY—WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT. The Roomba Plus 415X vacuums and mops in one run, stopping crumbs, dust, and spills before they turn into stuck‑on messes. With 20,000 Pa and DualClean mop pads, your floors stay visibly clean from morning and night.
- NO MORE SCRUBBING DRIED‑ON MESSES. SmartScrub applies extra pressure exactly where messes are stubborn—breaking down dried food, muddy paw prints, and kitchen splatter, so you never have to scrub by hand again.
- REACHES THE PLACES DIRT USUALLY HIDES. A 46% slimmer design* fits under more furniture, while extending brushes pull debris from edges and corners—so dust doesn’t collect where traditional robots miss. *Compared to Roomba 105
- GREAT FOR HOMES WITH PETS. Tangle‑free rubber brushes capture pet fur without clogging, eliminating constant stops to cut hair off the brush.
- EVERY CLEAN STARTS WITH A FRESH MOP—NOT YESTERDAY’S DIRT. The AutoWash Dock washes and heat‑dries mop pads at 113°F after every run, preventing odors and buildup so floors aren’t cleaned with yesterday’s dirt.
What the evidence does not establish
The available comparisons do not isolate water temperature from other differences between robot models, demonstrate an independently validated sanitation benefit across brands, or establish the current extra cost of hot-water washing against an otherwise comparable robot. Do not infer that hot water alone guarantees cleaner floors or disinfects a home. Check current prices and regional configurations when choosing; they can vary.
