Steam’s built-in wishlist emails are a simple option for games already on Steam, but they have specific discount and account requirements. The right choice depends on whether you want to check past prices, watch multiple stores or receive an alert when a game goes on sale.

Use price history to answer, “Is this price low compared with the prices this service has recorded?” Use alerts to answer, “Can I be notified when this game reaches a price or discount I care about?” Those are related but different jobs: a history graph helps you judge an offer, while a waitlist or wishlist notification helps you notice one.
How SteamDB helps you judge a Steam price

Treat a recorded low as a record of what that service captured for that game and region—not as a universal guarantee of the lowest price the game has ever had. The history available can differ by title and region. For context, SteamDB’s dynamic tracker page reported daily prices for 92 games since July 2, 2026, when viewed on October 4, 2026. That is a dated statement about that page’s coverage, not a count of all Steam games tracked by SteamDB. SteamDB also cannot predict which games publishers will discount or what prices they will choose for a future sale. Past sale patterns may help you decide whether to wait, but they do not promise a repeat discount. SteamDB’s FAQ addresses this limitation.

Cross-store comparison needs a little more checking than a Steam-only price lookup. Before buying, confirm that the offer is for the intended platform, is valid in your region and includes the activation method you expect. Store and local-price coverage can vary; verify the specific listing rather than assuming every retailer or regional price is represented.
What Steam wishlist sale emails require
Steam’s built-in wishlist is a convenient baseline, but its emails are not triggered by every discount. According to Valve’s Steamworks wishlist documentation, a discount must be at least 20%, apply to the lowest-priced package and last longer than eight hours. The recipient must also have a verified email address.

Delivery can take several hours. After an email is sent, a one-to-two-week cooldown may apply, and Valve says busy periods can extend it. Therefore, a missing or late email does not by itself prove that a game was never discounted; the offer may not have met the trigger conditions, or delivery may be delayed or within the cooldown.
Why your local Steam price matters
Steam’s pricing system covers 37 currencies and four region groups, but that does not mean every game is sold in every currency. Publishers choose prices for each currency and region group. Valve’s Steamworks Pricing Explorer describes the system; its conversion methods use public data as of January 2026. For a buying decision, use the price shown in your own Steam storefront and compare third-party listings against your region and currency.

Price history can also be region-specific. When comparing a chart or recorded-low label, make sure it refers to the same storefront region and currency as the price you can actually pay. A low in another region is not necessarily available to you.

- Find the game in your chosen tracker. Use SteamDB for Steam-focused history, or IsThereAnyDeal when you want cross-store listings and alerts.
- Check the region and currency. Compare against your local storefront, not a price shown for a different market.
- Read the history in context. Confirm the title has enough captured history to answer your question; a recorded low is limited by the service’s coverage for that title and region.
- Set an alert if you are willing to wait. Use a waitlist or tracker notification rule for your target, or add the game to Steam’s wishlist for its built-in email notifications.
- Verify the offer before purchasing. For third-party listings, confirm the retailer, region, platform and activation details. For a Steam purchase, check the final local price in Steam.
What about Steam’s possible 30-day price history?
PC Gamer reported on April 16, 2026, that backend code strings suggested Valve might be preparing a wider 30-day Steam price-history feature, while cautioning that it might never ship. That report is not confirmation of a current worldwide rollout.
