The right fix for a Dell Precision 5810 installation problem depends on where setup fails. First note the operating system and version, the exact on-screen error, whether the USB installer starts, whether the target drive appears, the BIOS boot and storage settings, and whether the drive is connected to onboard SATA or an add-in RAID controller. Use the matching branch below rather than changing BIOS settings at random.
Start by identifying the failure stage
Before changing settings, write down the full error message and note what happened immediately before it. A USB device missing from the boot menu points to a different check than an installer that starts but cannot find a drive.

If the USB installer will not boot

Use installation media made from the operating system publisher’s official image and instructions. Dell’s Precision Tower 5810 support resources include OS installation and bootable-USB guidance.

Restart and open the F12 one-time boot menu. Choose the installer entry that matches the BIOS boot mode configured on the workstation.

If the USB still does not appear, try recreating the installer according to the OS publisher’s instructions and check that the USB device is connected securely. Note any boot-mode changes you make so you can restore the original configuration.
A USB not appearing in the menu does not, by itself, identify a single cause. The operating system, media-creation method, and current boot configuration all matter.
If setup cannot see the target drive

Confirm which physical drive you intend to install to and whether it is connected to onboard SATA or a separate RAID controller. If you are unsure, check the system’s hardware configuration or have a technician identify the connection.

Record the current BIOS storage setting and identify the controller. Do not switch between RAID and AHCI as a guess; an existing operating system or RAID array may rely on the current mode.

Once you know the controller, check whether setup needs its matching storage driver. Dell lists a model-specific resource titled “How To Install Storage Driver During OS Install for Precision Tower 5810” in its Precision Tower 5810 support resources. Use the driver for the hardware actually installed, not a package selected only because it mentions the 5810.

If the drive remains missing, check whether the BIOS detects it and inspect its cabling and controller visibility. If firmware cannot see the drive, a setup driver alone is unlikely to address the underlying detection problem.
If installation or the first boot fails
The installer and the installed OS need a consistent boot configuration. Check whether the installation was started in UEFI or legacy mode, where applicable, and review Secure Boot state against the operating system’s official installation guidance. Dell’s Precision Tower 5810 manuals and support resources include OS and UEFI Secure Boot references.
Before changing boot settings, record their current values. If the OS installed successfully but the workstation returns to setup or reports no boot device, use F12 to check which boot entry is selected and whether it corresponds to the installation’s boot mode.

When a BIOS update is relevant
Do not flash the BIOS simply because OS setup failed. First check the current BIOS release on Dell’s support page for the workstation, using its service tag where available, and compare its notes with the specific issue. Dell’s Precision Workstation T5810 BIOS details list release A19, dated May 13, 2017. Its notes include a boot-sequence fix for add-in NIC PXE, removal of a duplicate UEFI boot device, and an Intel RAID option-ROM update. A19 is a historical release entry, not confirmation that it is the latest BIOS now offered for your system.
Dell documents updating through Windows or through F12 > BIOS Flash Update with a USB drive. Follow Dell’s current instructions for the update method and do not interrupt the process. If Windows is encrypted with BitLocker, Dell’s BIOS instructions say to suspend BitLocker before updating.
Run diagnostics if software checks do not explain the problem

Use the F12 diagnostics, if available, to check the workstation’s hardware.

Check drive cabling and whether the BIOS and controller can see the target disk.

If a diagnostic reports an error, record its exact wording or code before deciding on repair or replacement.
The installation symptom alone does not establish that the drive has failed. Diagnose the disk and controller before replacing hardware.
