On a Redmi 17 5G, check Settings > Battery > Battery protection for Smart charging or another charging option. Xiaomi documents that route for Smart charging generally, but does not confirm that every Redmi 17 5G region or firmware version includes it—or a fixed, user-selectable 80% cap. Use the options displayed on your phone; if none appear, you cannot enable a software charge limit through that menu on your current firmware.
How to check for battery protection on the Redmi 17 5G
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Battery protection, if it appears.
- If Smart charging is listed, turn it on to use Xiaomi’s adaptive charging behavior.
- If the menu shows other charging modes, read their on-screen descriptions and choose the one that matches your preference.
Xiaomi’s general Smart charging guidance gives this path: Settings > Battery > Battery protection > Smart charging. The exact menu and available features can vary by model and firmware; Xiaomi’s HyperOS guidance also notes that some features may not be available on every model. The Redmi 17 5G FAQ does not confirm that this menu or a user-selectable 80% limit is available on the phone.
Does Smart charging keep a Redmi 17 5G at 80%?
Not as a guaranteed fixed cap. Xiaomi says Smart charging learns how you charge and may stop at 80% “in applicable situations.” For overnight charging, it may charge slowly and finish closer to the time you are expected to use the phone. That behavior is intended to avoid leaving the battery fully charged for a long time, but it can still result in a 100% charge.

What if the Battery protection menu shows several modes?
Follow the labels and descriptions shown on your own Redmi 17 5G. Xiaomi documents Regular charging, Optimized charging, and Battery protection as options on a related POCO model, not as confirmed Redmi 17 5G settings:

Why does the Redmi 17 5G still charge to 100%?
Smart charging is conditional, not a permanent 80% ceiling. If the feature is unavailable, disabled, or does not apply to a particular charging situation, the phone may charge fully. Separately, Xiaomi’s Redmi 17 FAQ describes built-in charging management: charging may slow near full capacity or in high ambient temperatures, and charging stops when the battery reaches full capacity. Those automatic protections are different from a user-settable cap.

Xiaomi says heavy use while charging can reduce charging speed and add heat, and recommends letting the device charge without active use when possible. If charging seems slower during gaming or other demanding use, pause that activity while the phone charges. The Redmi 17 FAQ also reports an approximate 95-minute charge to full under optimal conditions using the recommended charger; that is a Xiaomi internal-laboratory figure reported by Xiaomi, not an independently verified result, and it is not a guaranteed charging time.
