Export formats vary: card text may transfer while images, audio, formatting, scheduling, or review history do not. Do not delete the original collection or accept an overwrite until you have verified both the backup and the destination app’s import behavior.
Use a backup-first workflow
- Identify what you own. Check which account or profile contains each deck and whether a set was created by you or copied from another user. Some apps limit export by ownership or plan.
- Export using the most complete format available. If the app offers a collection package as well as text, compare what each includes. In Anki, enable media and scheduling options when you need those data.
- Protect versions that differ. If devices or profiles have changes that are not synchronized, export or back up each version before resolving a sync conflict or choosing an overwrite.
- Keep two copies. Leave the original export unchanged and save a second copy somewhere separate. A USB drive is one optional place for an offline copy, not a requirement.
- Inspect before importing. Open the export where possible and check representative cards, including formatting, images, audio, and scheduling data if applicable.
- Check the destination app. Confirm its currently supported import formats and whether an import merges with existing cards, creates duplicates, or replaces content. Test with a small copy if practical.
- Retain the source. Keep the original account and backup until you have checked the imported collection in the destination app.
What the main apps export
These formats are not interchangeable guarantees of a complete migration. The source app determines what can be exported; the destination app determines what it can import and preserve.
| App | Eligibility and export format | What to check before switching |
|---|---|---|
| Anki | Offers plain-text notes and packaged exports, including .apkg and .colpkg files. A collection package can include scheduling information and media when the relevant options are selected. Anki Manual: Exporting | Plain text is useful for card content but is not a full collection backup. Check the media and scheduling options on a package export, then inspect the result. |
| AnkiMobile | Its collection-transfer instructions use a collection.colpkg file. AnkiMobile Manual: Collection Transfer | Importing the collection replaces the existing collection; it does not merge separate changes made in two locations. Bring recent changes together first and retain a backup. |
| Quizlet | Creators can export their own sets from the website by opening a set, selecting Export, choosing the arrangement of terms and definitions, and copying the text. Export is website-only. Quizlet Help: Exporting your sets | Sets copied from another user cannot be exported using this workflow, and image exports are unavailable. Copied text is not a full media archive. |
| Brainscape | Brainscape says deck export is available to Pro users. Its guidance describes exporting text or CSV files that can be opened in Excel and may be re-uploaded to Brainscape or another platform. Brainscape Help: Export a backup | Eligibility and interface steps can change. Migration may require manual conversion and importing through the available tools. Exporting from Anki without losing collection data
Anki distinguishes a text export from a packaged deck or collection. Its manual describes plain-text notes with fields separated by tabs. That can carry card content into tools that accept tab-separated text, but it is not equivalent to backing up the complete collection.
Anki’s packaged exports use .apkg or .colpkg files. The manual explains that packaged decks bundle cards, notes, note types, and any sounds or images included. For a collection package, select scheduling and media when those matter to you; do not assume they were included just because the file was packaged. See Anki’s export instructions for the available export options.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Be especially cautious with .colpkg imports: Anki’s manual warns that importing one deletes the current cards and replaces them with cards from the package. Do not use it as a casual merge operation. Save a backup of the destination collection first if it contains anything you want to keep.
Back up before resolving Anki sync conflicts
If two Anki devices or profiles have different recent changes, preserve each version before resolving the conflict. Anki’s syncing guidance advises backing up each device or profile first; its export documentation describes making a full export with scheduling and media and saving it somewhere safe. Review Anki’s sync guidance before choosing which version to keep. Once both versions are backed up, resolve the conflict deliberately rather than relying on an overwrite to preserve changes from both sides.

Can you move Quizlet cards to another app?
Quizlet’s documented export route is through its website: open a set you created, choose Export, select how terms and definitions should be arranged, and copy the resulting text. The help page says sets copied from another user cannot be exported with this method, and images are not included. A text export may be useful for recreating cards in another app, but it does not establish that images, study history, or other set data will transfer.
If you are using an iPad, the cited Quizlet instructions specify a website workflow, not an iPad-app export flow. Use a browser to access the website, and confirm the destination app’s current import options before relying on the copied text.

Moving decks from Brainscape
Brainscape’s help information says deck export is available to Pro users and describes files that can be opened in Excel. Its migration guidance uses exported CSV or text and an import process; manual conversion may be needed when the destination expects a different format. Check the current account eligibility and interface instructions in Brainscape’s backup help and its import guidance before starting. - Formatting: inspect representative cards for layout or styling changes.
- Images and audio: verify that the media files are present and linked correctly; a text export may not carry them.
- Scheduling and review history: check whether the export contains this information and whether the destination supports importing it. Do not assume another app can interpret it.
- Import effects: establish whether existing cards will be merged, duplicated, or replaced before importing a full deck or collection.
Keep the source account and untouched export until the destination deck has been checked card by card or with a suitable sample. If something is missing, you can then return to the preserved source rather than trying to reconstruct it from an incomplete import.
