If photos are appearing on a shared screen, first identify the device showing them. Apple documents photo syncing through the Photos app on Apple TV 4K; its HomePod guide covers speaker and Siri features, not Apple TV photo display. If you mean an Apple TV connected to a television, turn off iCloud Photos for the Apple TV’s default profile. If you mean the HomePod speaker itself, identify the screen or device involved before changing photo settings.
Identify which device is displaying the photos
HomePod and Apple TV 4K have different roles in Apple’s documentation. HomePod is described as a Siri speaker, while Apple TV 4K has a Photos app and an iCloud photo-sync setting. Check the hardware connected to the screen where the pictures appear; the HomePod’s Siri privacy settings are not a substitute for Apple TV photo-sync controls.
Turn off iCloud Photos on Apple TV 4K
- On Apple TV 4K, open Settings > Profiles and Accounts.
- Select the default profile.
- Open Photos > iCloud Photos and switch it off. Apple documents this as stopping that profile from syncing its iCloud photos to Apple TV 4K. Only the default profile can sync photos and use the Photos app.
Apple says that the first time Photos is opened on Apple TV 4K, the user is asked whether to sync all iCloud photos or only Shared Albums. That selection is distinct from turning off the profile’s access to iCloud Photos. Menu names or locations can vary with tvOS; check the current menus on the device. Apple also notes that feature availability may vary by region and Apple TV hardware. Apple TV 4K user guide: View photos.
What HomePod privacy settings do—and do not do
HomePod voice recognition can support personalized music and media. The Personal Content control allows personal Siri requests such as sending or reading messages, checking a calendar, and making calls. These controls are set per person and for selected HomePod speakers in Home settings. Apple’s guidance describes them as controls for personal Siri access, not as controls for photos displayed by Apple TV. Set up voice recognition on HomePod.

Check whether the photos are in a shared library or album
Shared Photo Library
A Shared Photo Library is collaborative rather than a way to hide selected images from a display. Participants can add, edit, and delete content; when someone contributes photos, those photos move out of that person’s personal library. The creator provides the iCloud storage. Apple Support’s January 14, 2026 guidance says a Shared Photo Library supports up to five other people. Review which account and library the display device syncs instead of moving sensitive pictures into a shared library as a filtering workaround. About iCloud Shared Photo Library.
Shared Albums
Shared Albums have separate access controls. Their owner can manage sharing options and remove subscribers. If an album is the source of pictures appearing on a shared screen, review its subscribers and sharing settings. How to use Shared Albums in Photos.

If photos still appear
- Confirm which device or app is actually showing them, especially if the television has another connected streamer or built-in photo app.
- Check the Apple TV default profile and its iCloud Photos setting; the documented Apple TV control is profile-specific.
- Determine whether the images come from iCloud Photos, a Shared Album, or a Shared Photo Library, then change access at that source.
- If the screen is not Apple TV 4K, identify its model, software version, and photo app before applying Apple TV instructions; the available Apple guidance does not establish settings for every television or third-party display.
