STMicroelectronics and IS2T’s STM32Java was an embedded Java development environment built around MicroEJ technology, with Java platforms tailored to supported STM32 microcontrollers and their board peripherals. The historical STM3220G-JAVA and STM3240G-JAVA evaluation kits are now marked obsolete and out of production by ST; they are not current board recommendations. MicroEJ documents support for a range of STM32 families today, but an exact device, release, and license must be confirmed with the vendor.
What STM32Java was
STM32Java was a Java toolchain and platform for developing embedded applications on specifically supported STM32 hardware. MicroEJ describes it as including an IDE, Java compiler, STM32-optimized Java platforms, standard libraries, and related tools. The workflow included PC simulation and graphical-interface tooling, as well as lightweight Java/C interoperability libraries. Those capabilities depended on features implemented on supported hardware: the fact that a chip is an STM32 does not by itself mean it can run an STM32Java application.
ST’s general STM32 IDE information mentions Java among languages available across its wider ecosystem, alongside C, C++, and Pascal. That broad statement does not establish that every Java IDE or workflow supports every STM32 part. STM32Java was a distinct, hardware-dependent path, not a feature supplied by every STM32 development setup.
What came with the STM3220G-JAVA evaluation kit
ST described the STM3220G-JAVA as a platform for evaluating embedded Java development on STM32F2-series microcontrollers. The kit paired an STM3220G-EVAL board with a DVD-ROM containing an evaluation version of the STM32Java SDK based on MicroEJ. Its demo ran on an STM32F207IGH6. ST now lists the kit as obsolete and out of production. STMicroelectronics: STM3220G-JAVA

The related STM3240G-JAVA kit
ST also offered the STM3240G-JAVA for evaluating Java on STM32F4. It used an STM3240G-EVAL board, with its demo programmed on an STM32F407IGH6. ST’s feature list was similar to the F2 kit and also noted hardware floating-point support. ST marks this product obsolete and out of production as well. STMicroelectronics: STM3240G-JAVA
Are the Java evaluation kits still available?
As of October 4, 2026, ST’s product pages classify both named kits as “Obsolete” and “Out of Production.” That is the lifecycle status shown by the manufacturer; it does not determine whether an individual used kit might appear through a reseller. Treat any such listing as used historical hardware and verify its condition, included accessories, and software media directly with the seller. The old evaluation-kit status also says nothing about current MicroEJ licensing.

ST’s historical terms for the evaluation software included with these kits limited use to three months from first launch and one hour of runtime. Those limits apply to the kit’s evaluation version, not to current MicroEJ offerings. ST’s STM3220G-JAVA product page and STM3240G-JAVA product page
Can Java run on an STM32 today?
Potentially, but compatibility is specific to the MCU, platform release, and hardware configuration. MicroEJ’s supported-hardware page lists examples across STM32F0, F2, F4, F7, L0, L4, U5, G0, G4, H7, WB, and WL families, among others. A family appearing on that page is not proof that every part number, peripheral, or release is supported. Check the exact MCU and intended release with MicroEJ before choosing hardware. For a current STM32 project, ST’s mainstream STM32Cube ecosystem is a separate route. Series-dependent STM32Cube MCU/MPU packages include HAL and LL APIs and middleware, while STM32CubeMX generates initialization code. These tools provide context for standard STM32 development, but they are not the STM32Java SDK. STM32Cube MCU & MPU Packages · STM32 software development tools

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Exact MCU and release: ask MicroEJ whether the precise STM32 part number is supported by the intended platform and software release.
- Board peripherals: compare the required display, touch input, network, serial interfaces, and controls with the actual board. The old evaluation kits’ peripheral lists do not describe current hardware.
- Application workflow: establish whether the available IDE, compiler, simulation, GUI tools, libraries, and Java/C integration match the project’s needs.
- Lifecycle and licensing: obtain current terms and product availability from MicroEJ; the three-month and one-hour limitations documented for ST’s historical evaluation software are not current-license terms.
- Alternative STM32 development: if the project does not require Java, assess the appropriate STM32Cube package, HAL/LL APIs, and middleware for the target MCU series.
