Yes—if the recipient is an adult who feels nostalgic about the original PlayStation and enjoys building display models. LEGO set 72306 recreates the original console and controller at near life size, with two game-inspired scenes. It is a poor match for someone expecting a playable console, a compact gift, or a lower-cost build.
What is included in LEGO PlayStation 72306?
The 1,911-piece set builds a near 1:1-scale model of the original PlayStation and its first controller. The controller plugs into the console, and the model’s Open and Power buttons work as tactile features. Two game-inspired dioramas can be tucked inside the console or displayed alongside it: a miniature Gran Turismo track with cars and an Ape Escape scene featuring a red or blue monkey helmet. LEGO’s product listing describes the set as an adult model, rated 18+.
For digital instructions, the LEGO Builder app provides a 3D view that builders can zoom and rotate, plus progress tracking. The model is over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep, according to LEGO. PlayStation’s UK merchandise page gives approximate dimensions of 60 × 260 × 190 mm and an approximate weight of 2.3 kg. Check the intended shelf or desk before buying: this is a substantial display piece, not a small desk trinket.

Think twice: someone who wants to play
This is a brick-built model, not a functioning game console, and it does not provide playable games. It is also a poor fit for someone who dislikes building, prefers gifts with practical gameplay use, or has little interest in retro PlayStation. Is the price right for the recipient?
LEGO announced recommended retail prices of $179.99 in the United States, €159.99 in Europe and £139.99 in the United Kingdom. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation Blog announcement also lists ¥27,980 including tax in Japan. These are announced list prices, not confirmation of a seller’s current price or stock. At that price level, the set makes the most sense for someone with a clear interest in original PlayStation nostalgia or display builds—not someone who is only mildly curious about retro gaming.

According to the announcements, LEGO Insiders early access began October 1, 2026, followed by general availability through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and selected retailers on October 4, 2026. PlayStation said its direct store would offer the set from October 1 in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Those are announced dates and channels; inventory and discounts can vary by seller and country.

How to decide before you buy
- Nostalgia: Is the recipient attached to the original PlayStation era, rather than gaming in general?
