Yes. Meta Quest 3 runs compatible Quest games and apps directly on the headset, so you do not need a gaming PC or console for ordinary standalone use. A PC is only needed if you want to stream PC VR games to the headset using Meta Quest Link or Steam Link.
What you can do with Quest 3 on its own
Quest 3 is a standalone wireless headset: native Quest experiences run on the headset rather than on a separate computer or console. Check the store listing for a particular game or app to make sure it has a Quest version; a PC VR title is not automatically a native Quest app. Meta lists Quest games and apps on its Quest 3 product page.
For installed native content, a PC connection is not part of the basic play path. The product information cited here does not establish that first-time setup, downloads, every account function, or every app will work offline. Multiplayer and other connected features can also require internet access, depending on the app.
When a computer is required
A gaming PC becomes necessary if you want to play PC VR games by streaming them to Quest 3. In that setup, the computer runs the game and the headset displays the stream; it is distinct from running a native Quest app.

Meta Quest Link
Meta says Link is compatible with Quest 3 and connects the headset to a computer. Its documentation explains that “Link causes your device to behave like a PC VR headset until the tool is explicitly turned off.” A USB-C data cable is relevant to a wired Link setup; Link is optional, not required for native Quest play.
Steam Link
Steam Link streams games from a Steam library on a computer to the Quest headset. The computer needs Steam and SteamVR, and must meet the listing’s current hardware and network requirements. Requirements can change, so verify them for your setup rather than treating one configuration as universal.

What to check before buying a game
- Look for the platform. Confirm whether the title is a Quest-native app or a PC VR game. They use different libraries and run on different hardware.
- Match the setup to the title. A native Quest version can run on the headset; PC VR streaming requires a compatible computer and either Quest Link or Steam Link.
- Check storage and connection needs. Installed content uses headset storage, while downloads and connected features may need internet. For PC streaming, review the current requirements for the chosen method and game.
Meta currently lists a 512 GB Quest 3 configuration on its product page; storage, availability, and price can change. Accessories such as a different head strap or facial interface are optional and do not make standalone operation possible—the headset already runs native apps by itself.
