To get a launch alert, add the game to your wishlist, but allow for delays and notification settings that can affect delivery.
What “Coming Soon” means on a Steam page
A Coming Soon store page lets customers see an upcoming game, visit its community hub, wishlist it, and follow its progress. It does not mean the game is already available: while it remains in this state, customers cannot buy or play it through that store page. Valve requires a new product’s Coming Soon page to be live for at least two weeks before release. Steamworks: Coming Soon and Steamworks: Release Options explain these rules.
What an approximate or less-specific date means
The developer chooses how specifically to display the planned release date. A less-specific date communicates a broader plan, not a fixed promise or a universal time window. Steam’s Coming Soon guidance points developers to separate Release Dates documentation for the available display choices; it does not establish a standard duration for labels such as “approximate.” Steamworks: Coming Soon
Valve asks developers to keep store information honest and accurate, while acknowledging that plans and release timing can change. A date on a Coming Soon page should therefore be read as the developer’s current plan, not a guarantee that the game will launch on that exact day. Steamworks: Release Options

Can a developer change a Steam release date?
Yes. Developers can change the planned date when plans change. If the date is within 14 days, however, Steam says the developer must contact Steam to change it. Valve also asks developers to set a date as close as possible to the actual release. These are rules for developers managing a Steam release, not settings customers can change on a store page. How to get notified when a Steam game launches
- Open the game’s Steam store page.
- Select the option to add the game to your wishlist.
- Keep it wishlisted when the game releases. Steam says users who have the game wishlisted at that time receive an email and/or mobile push notification when it becomes available in Early Access or as a full release. Steamworks: Wishlists
An Early Access launch is a release for this notification purpose; it is not the same as the later transition from Early Access to full release. Steam says the full-release transition can generate another email for users who have the game wishlisted at that time. Steamworks: Wishlists

Why an alert may not arrive right away
- Steam says launch emails may take multiple hours to arrive; a notification is not necessarily immediate at the moment of release.
- Email delivery requires a verified email address, and communication preferences can exclude some message types.
- Steam documents a two-week email cooldown per app ID. It may extend the cooldown during periods of high traffic. Steamworks: Wishlists
Wishlist alerts and store visibility are different
Wishlisting is a way to keep track of a game and receive the documented launch notification; it does not guarantee a particular position or appearance in Steam discovery areas. Steam says wishlist information can inform visibility, while upcoming lists may be filtered by release date, popularity, tags, or other categories. Placement is personalized, and there is no minimum wishlist count a game must reach before it can begin appearing. Steamworks: Wishlists

Wishlist notifications can also relate to events other than a game launch. Steam documents alerts for discounts of at least 20% when the lowest-priced package is discounted and the discount lasts more than eight hours. Developers can also send a one-time notification when an associated free demo becomes public, within two weeks after the demo’s release, using the control on the demo’s app landing page.
