A rocking corner usually calls for a floor-contact check; a swaying frame calls for checks of height, load position, and model-approved fasteners; a shaking screen with a steady frame points to the monitor stand or arm. Start with reversible adjustments, follow your desk’s manual, and stop using the desk if you see structural damage or uneven powered movement.
Identify what is wobbling
Watch the desk during the movement that bothers you, and note whether the motion happens while it is stationary or while it raises and lowers. That distinction helps you avoid trying to fix a screen or foot problem by changing the frame.
- One corner lifts, taps, or rocks: check for uneven floor contact, debris, or a rug edge under a foot.
- The whole desk sways: check its height, load placement, and accessible frame connections.
- The desktop moves while the frame stays still: inspect the desktop attachment using the instructions for your model.
- Only the monitor shakes: investigate the stand, arm, or clamp rather than assuming the desk frame is loose.
- Movement occurs during travel: stop and check for obstructions. If travel is uneven or accompanied by visible damage, stop using the desk and contact its manufacturer.
Check floor contact and clear the desk’s path
- Remove objects from around and beneath the desk that could interfere with its feet or its movement.
- Check that each foot rests on firm floor rather than debris, a soft or uneven rug edge, or a gap.
- If your model has leveling feet, adjust them only as its manual permits, until the feet make firm contact. Recheck the desk after each adjustment; changing one contact point can affect another.
For a desk that rocks front-to-back, Progressive Automations also recommends adjusting the leveling feet. If an installed glide is damaged or missing, use a replacement only after confirming it fits the model and thread; replacing a foot is not the first step for an ordinary rocking problem.
Check frame and desktop fasteners by model
Use the owner’s manual to identify which connections you may check, what tool they require, and the safe desk position for the work. Do not assume that instructions or tool sizes for one brand apply to another.

For its own tightening sequence, Progressive Automations recommends lowering the desk to sitting height, tightening the leg-to-crossbeam bolts with the included Allen key, checking any crossbeam width locks, and snugging the tabletop screws. It cautions against overtightening and says to stop if bolt resistance changes suddenly. If tightening does not resolve the movement, it recommends contacting support.
The UPLIFT F650/F651 V2 Commercial 3-Leg assembly manual specifies a 4 mm Allen wrench for the relevant assembly screws and says, “Tightening these screws has a noticeable impact on desk stability.” That is model-specific assembly guidance, not a universal tool or torque specification. Follow your own manual’s directions, including any instruction about foot screws.

Center the load and compare at the same height
Move heavy items toward the center of the desktop and, where practical, nearer the frame supports. Then compare the desk under the same conditions: working height, floor surface, load, monitor-arm position, and task. OdinLake recommends recording those conditions and comparing sitting and standing heights during the same light task.
Some lateral flex can be more noticeable when a desk is extended higher. Progressive Automations says slight lateral flex at maximum height can be expected; rocking at sitting height, clunking, or visible gaps at joints are stronger reasons to inspect the hardware. Do not treat every visible movement at full extension as proof of a defect, but do not dismiss those warning signs.

Choose a remedy that matches the movement

Separate monitor shake from desk-frame sway
If the frame is level and its permitted fasteners are secure but only the screen moves, check whether the monitor stand or arm is loose and whether its clamp is suitable for your desktop. Deskstance notes that an arm may change the perceived screen movement by changing monitor position, but it does not make the frame stiffer. It is not a fix for a rocking foot or loose frame.

Stop using the desk and contact its manufacturer if movement persists after the approved checks or if you see a bent leg, separating desktop, cracked fastener point, damaged wiring, an unusual gap at a lift column, or uneven movement while raising or lowering. OdinLake advises unplugging the desk and keeping people clear in these cases. Do not drill into the frame, add unapproved braces, open lift columns, or keep operating a visibly damaged desk; use the manufacturer’s repair guidance.
