Then check Windows’ Xbox network status, restart your PC and network equipment, and only move on to Xbox app identity or account settings if the simpler checks do not help. Forza’s troubleshooting guidance is general rather than a confirmed Horizon 6-specific fix, so these steps help narrow down the cause; they do not guarantee a server-side or game-wide issue can be fixed locally.
First check whether the problem is local or service-side
Before changing Windows settings, try another online game or Xbox service and note whether Horizon 6 fails every time or only intermittently. Check official Xbox service status and current Forza support notices. The reviewed Forza multiplayer guide does not establish the live status of Horizon 6 servers or confirm a widespread Horizon 6 connection incident.
- If several online services fail, investigate your connection or Xbox service status first.
- If other online games work but Horizon 6 does not, record the exact error and continue with the game-specific diagnostics below.
- If Xbox service status indicates an outage, wait for service to recover before making disruptive changes to your PC or network.
Forza’s multiplayer troubleshooting guide, updated April 13, 2026, covers Forza multiplayer generally. Some passages, including a convoy error, explicitly discuss Horizon 5, so do not treat every recommendation as a verified Horizon 6 cause or fix.
Check Xbox network status in Windows
Open the Xbox networking diagnostics in Windows and check for a blocked server-connectivity status or a Teredo warning. Forza’s guide points PC players to the official Xbox help pages for issues such as “Teredo is Unable to Qualify” and error code “0x89235108.” Follow the current Xbox instructions for the status Windows actually reports rather than applying firewall or registry edits from unrelated guides.

The linked Xbox help pages are Xbox network connection troubleshooting and Teredo and NAT troubleshooting. Menu names and available diagnostics can change with Windows updates; use the current paths shown in Xbox support if they differ from your PC.
Try low-impact PC and router steps
- Restart the PC. Close Horizon 6 and restart Windows, then try connecting again.
- Reset the network adapter. Forza recommends disabling and re-enabling the Ethernet device. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings, select the active Ethernet adapter, and choose Disable; re-enable it after a short pause. If you use Wi-Fi, toggle the active Wi-Fi connection or adapter instead.
- Power-cycle the modem and router. Turn off or unplug the network equipment, wait briefly, restore power, and allow it to reconnect before testing Horizon 6 again.
These are basic connection resets, not proof that the router or adapter caused the error. Avoid buying networking hardware or changing port-forwarding, VPN, or DNS settings as a first response: the cited Forza guidance does not establish those as universal Horizon 6 fixes.

Refresh Xbox app identity and gaming services only if needed
If Windows network status looks healthy but Xbox app sign-in or identity services seem involved, Forza lists several Windows PC maintenance steps. They affect local app credentials and services, so use them carefully and avoid deleting unrelated folders or saved game data.
- TokenBroker cache: Forza recommends removing the Accounts and Cache folders under the Xbox Identity Provider TokenBroker location if those folders are present. Do not remove other folders or game-save locations.
- Saved credentials: Clear saved Windows credentials whose names begin with Xbl. Forza warns this can require signing back into other applications; it is not described as deleting game progress.
- Xbox services: Restart Xbox Live Network Service, Xbox Live Game Save, and Xbox Live Auth Manager using the Windows Services management interface.
Forza’s official troubleshooting article provides the referenced PC steps. Follow its current instructions for folder locations and credential management; if a folder is absent, do not create or substitute one.

Review privacy settings for a convoy-change error
If the exact message says matchmaking was cancelled because the Horizon Convoy changed, check the Microsoft account’s multiplayer and cross-network play permissions, especially on a child or family-managed account. The relevant section of Forza’s guide identifies parental controls or privacy restrictions as possible factors and recommends allowing multiplayer and cross-network play. That section is labeled for Horizon 5, so it is a reasonable account check for a similar Horizon 6 message, not confirmed proof of the cause in Horizon 6.
For other connection errors, changing family privacy settings is not a general-purpose fix. Verify the account owner or family organizer authorizes any change.

When to contact support
If the connection still fails after the checks above, submit a ticket through Forza Support, or use Xbox or Windows support if diagnostics point to those services. Include details that help support distinguish a game issue from a PC, network, or account problem:
- The exact error text and code, plus whether the failure is constant or intermittent.
- Whether you launch through Steam or the Xbox app, and your Windows version.
- Whether other online games or Xbox services connect successfully.
- The Windows Xbox network diagnostic result and the steps you have already tried.
Forza’s guide also discusses console-only tests and advanced router options such as alternate ports, QoS tags, DNS, MAC address, static IP, and UPnP. Those are not a default PC fix: use them only when a relevant diagnostic or support agent points to a specific networking issue.

Do not confuse performance or crash fixes with connection fixes
Playground Games’ May 22 update discusses PC performance, audio, crashes, loading, and graphics drivers. It does not say those issues cause multiplayer connection errors. Keep graphics-driver or crash troubleshooting separate unless the observed symptom is actually a crash or performance problem.
