Its creator’s launch announcement lists several possible game sources and interface features, but that announcement does not establish that every option works on every PS2 setup—or that ORBIT replaces other loaders or the software needed to run homebrew.
What ORBIT is described as doing
The project creator’s launch announcement describes ORBIT as a PS2 launcher and library interface. It lists these game sources and content types:
- Games from USB storage or an internal hard drive
- MX4SIO, iLink, MMCE, and UDPBD sources
- Games from the PS2 disc drive
- PS1 games through POPStarter
- Homebrew applications
These are options named in the announcement, not a verified compatibility list. The announcement does not establish that each source works on every console, with every configuration, or without other required hardware or software.
Interface features named in the announcement
The creator also describes covers downloaded by the console, 3D save icons, an in-game menu, and RetroAchievements on real hardware. These are announcement-level feature claims; they should not be treated as independently verified test results.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What ORBIT is not established to replace
The available description supports a narrower conclusion than an exhaustive list of things ORBIT cannot replace: it presents ORBIT as software that runs on a PS2 and works with game sources such as storage devices and the disc drive. It does not establish that ORBIT replaces the console, storage hardware, optical drive, a homebrew entry point, or every other game-loading program.
That distinction matters because “launcher” describes an interface for selecting and starting content; it does not, by itself, prove that the software supplies the hardware or the separate capabilities required to make a particular PS2 setup run that content. The direct ORBIT guide is linked at the project guide, but the launch announcement is the basis for the specific ORBIT features and sources described here.

ORBIT, Open PS2 Loader, and OrbitOPL Toolbox are different projects
| Project | What its documentation describes | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| ORBIT | A PS2 launcher/interface. Its creator’s announcement lists game sources, PS1 games through POPStarter, homebrew apps, and interface features. | The announcement does not prove universal compatibility or establish that ORBIT replaces OPL, hardware, or a homebrew entry point. |
| Open PS2 Loader (OPL) | A separate PS2 game and app loader. Its repository documents supported image formats, storage configurations, homebrew ELF apps, and configuration. | OPL documentation is not proof of ORBIT compatibility. OPL-specific filesystem or drive details should not be attributed to ORBIT. |
| OrbitOPL Toolbox | A separate desktop application for organizing PS2 and PS1 OPL collections. Its page describes importing disc images and homebrew ELF files, fetching artwork, editing OPL settings, and managing virtual memory cards. | Despite the similar name, it is not the ORBIT launcher described in the announcement; it manages OPL libraries on a computer. |
For OPL’s own capabilities, consult its project repository. OrbitOPL Toolbox’s project page describes the separate collection manager; its stated version can change over time.

Do not buy a particular drive or assume a specific loading method is mandatory based only on ORBIT’s announcement. USB storage and an internal hard drive are among the listed alternatives, alongside other sources and the disc drive. Whether a route suits a particular console depends on its hardware and software configuration; the available ORBIT announcement does not provide a model-by-model compatibility matrix.

Keep the roles separate when planning a setup: ORBIT is the announced launcher/interface, OPL is a distinct loader, OrbitOPL Toolbox is a computer-side library manager, and the PS2 plus any storage or other hardware remain separate parts of the system. The announcement does not provide enough detail to specify the additional prerequisites for every listed source.
